I'd say my home phone that never drops calls and always has service (landline) is a better phone.

Better cell phone? Probably any cell phone that doesn't have any signal issues.

Better mobile device? Now you've got me.

I think all Consumer Reports is saying is that as a cell phone, they can't recommend it due to signal issues, but that doesn't mean it's not the best mobile device on the market. It's like you said, it all depends on what you want in a phone.

Re: Movie Review: New Moon

You mis-interpreted, at the very least, my hate for this franchise. It has nothing to do with the audience and everything to do with simplistic, disturbingly passionate writing that reads like a pulpy romance with Fabio on the cover. I had the same problem with Harry Potter. I see nothing wrong with pre-pubescent girls (and even boys) reading this smut, but these grown women I see posting status messages on Facebook about how dreamy a pre-pubescent fictional character is and what they did with said fictional character in their dreams last night should be ashamed of themselves.

What would these same women say about grown men drooling over Miley Cyrus or even Taylor Swift? It's just as disgusting when the child being drooled over is fictional. I have no hate for women that just read these books, it's just as mind-numbing as many of the video games I play, but when they start talking about these characters as if they're real, I break out the hate stick and start hunting them down like the Seniors in Dazed and confused.

As far as Leonardo DiCaprio goes, my hate for him has nothing to do with the throngs of girls and now women that fall for him and everything to do with the fact that I think he's an over-rated actor. He can't do an accent to save his life (he was horrible in Blood Diamond and worse in The Man in the Iron Mask) and the only roles he plays convincingly are the ones not far from his true self (see Catch Me if You Can). I didn't hate him in The Departed, but I did hate him in Gangs of New York, both directed by Scorsese and in both he was out-shined by his many co-stars. I hated Titanic for its weak, cliche story as well, not for its fans and followers. James Cameron makes beautiful, technically-sound movies, but behind all the flash and spectacle are boring, empty stories.

In short, you have over-simplified and falsely analyzed at least one viewer's hate for this franchise and I think you may find the same for many of the Twilight-haters you chastise here.

Re: Google Reader's Magic Finds Personalized Highlights In Feeds

Re: Google Reader's Magic Finds Personalized Highlights In Feeds

To be fair, Jesse's feeds are about 40% relevant. I always "sort by oldest" and trudge through the feeds until they're all read. I'm stubborn that way. Course, I also only follow people (on Reader) I know and whose shares I'm interested in, and I only subscribe to feeds whose content is at least 80% relevant to me (unless I'm related to them... cough, Jesse, cough, cough...).

Maybe I'm missing out on some valuable feeds that way, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's like my own, personal, semi-interactive newspaper. I don't understand all the "big" bloggers who try to use Twitter, FriendFeed, or even Facebook to replace it. I guess they're trying to use these services much differently than I do.

Re: Review: What Doesn’t Kill You by DrChocolate

I need to add this one to the queue.

Re: Google Voice Update

Thanks Brandon! They have already developed charging pads that allow you to simply place your electronics on a pad to recharge. There is one called WIldCharge that seems to be leading the pack. The main problem devices like this have however, is that no standard has been developed that battery makers have to abide by to be compatible with these devices.

So the technology is there, but it is up to battery makers and the charging pad companies to come to some sort of agreement about the best way to make this mainstream. Until then, you'll have to stick often bulky adapters on your gadgets to get them to work.

Re: How to Use iTunes With Multiple Computers

Following the instructions in this post would actually download all the music in your library onto your work hard drive. You have two options to solve your dilemma. First, you could create a separate library on your home computer for the songs you want at work, and copy only those files over. Second, you could try an iTunes streaming program. I haven't actually tried any, but Lifehacker just reviewed one called PulpTunes and laid out the process. Here's the post:

http://lifehacker.com/52747...

Re: How to Use iTunes With Multiple Computers

Thanks, Russell! My point with this article was to show that Universal (and the other major labels, i.e. Sony, EMI, Warner) don't understand the concept of social media. YouTube is a social site. It's a place to share videos with as many people as you can. Putting limits on how you can share those videos defeats the purpose of the site.

Yes, I agree that YouTube/Google doesn't care about exposure for artists. And yes, when it comes down to it, YouTube is a site made to generate profit. My point was that Universal should care about exposure for their artists. YouTube wanted Universal's videos because they generate lots of pageviews, and pageviews == ad revenue. However, as described by John's source (above), Universal wanted such a large piece of that revenue, that YouTube had to require that embedding be disabled. It was the only way to both pay off the labels and still be a successful company.

When it comes down to it, I agree with you, both parties are being greedy. They're both businesses trying to turn a profit and business, by its very nature, is greedy. All I'm trying to say is that Universal should relax a little in this case, because while they may not be happy that someone is earning ad revenue off of their property, they can take comfort in the fact that millions of people are being exposed to their artists, which brings them more money in the long run. I'm not naive, I don't expect anything to change, but if Universal, or any other major record label understood social media a little better, they would be doing a lot more to work with these sites. The Beggar's group gets it, why can't the big guys?

Re: How to Use iTunes With Multiple Users

True, but then you risk having duplicate files all over your computer.
