In my country (Senegal, the Land of "Teranga" or "Hospitality", in my native "Wolof"), there's a saying: "hospitality means: speak to your guest in his/her own language", which means people will insist on speaking to you in English, as much as possible! Anyway, awesome post. I've tweeted it, "scooped" it, and even "pinterested" it :-)

Hi Seth,

I am not really "endorsing" anybody. I simply agree with them when they say that "Website translation widgets are unreliable".

Regarding their "business model", I have no comment about that, even though as a Professional Translator my fees are much higher, which incidentally does not prevent me from having as many clients as I want... (And also please note I do not live in Europe or the Americas!)
BTW, have you actually seen UHT's translations and are you sure the quality is not good? Are you really sure their customers are not satisfied?

Not a country? I wish it were, though. As a PanAfricanist, I say: let the whole world start considering Africa as ONE country right now, because sooner or later, Africa will unite (Remember Kwame Nkrumah, Julius, Nyerere, Cheick Anta Diop? :-)

Great post, but it would have been PERFECT if you had included Senegal. It is a new, off-the-beaten-path destination, with happy people, beautiful culture and nature, unique sights and sounds. Geographically, it's the closest African country to the U.S., closer than many European countries! Visit Saint-Louis, Goree (both on the UNESCO World Heritage list), Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary (the World's #3), and so much more...
