I agree with what Anthony Bays says. and I really hope Rdio will survive, it's a great service. I'll try Apple Music but it won't be easy to make me switch.

We have public playlists that can reach more people than other music services, playlists that are better than the one you can make on youtube. One of the reason is we'll find another source if one of the source is taken down, which happens a lot on Youtube.
Check out http://thenostalgiamachine.com for some good examples.

This nice and pretty popular website lets you "get your childhood jam on". You pick a year and get the top 100 tracks for that year according to Billboard.
They added links to disco.io playlist for each year. This playlists automatically selects the best audio source depending on the visitor and the services she's connected to.

Even if her library is private, every user can share tracks and playlists.
We are going to make this public part more discoverable.

As we are bootstrapping and building this as a side project for now, we are mostly using word-of-mouth, so please try it and tell your friends if you like it :)

Yes, we play directly from the source, we don't host audio files. We are starting with affiliates links. We are encouraging our users to subscribe to premium music services to enhance the sound quality, and benefit from mobile / offline... We plan to tell you which music service is best for you based on your library / location ... and make it easy to switch from one to another (It's currently painful if you have spent a lot of time curating your library and playlists on one service to start from scratch on the new shining service).

There are a few similar web apps that integrate several music services (bop.fm, whyd).
Unlike others, DISCO.IO lets you easily import the favorites and playlists you already have elsewhere. It lets you also match your iTunes library to online sources. It's more focused on your personal and private music library,.
Like bop.fm we do sources matching so you can share music (not noise) with your friends that don't use the same services as you. We also use this to secure your personal library in case a source is taken down.
