If you wanted to see me, all you needed to do is call.

As for RE BarCamp SF. My interest had been waining for a while now. I have other events in my life taking priority and had planned on being out of the country for all of July. If it's really "dead", over, done,... whatever. Well how fucking cool is that? I mean, we would have been happy if 50 folks showed up and forged ideas and friendships at the onset in 2008 and yet this idea went on to become something of a "movement" for a few years.

Since I've been a little out of the loop as it were. I sure enjoy hearing your assessment of things. The Notorious always keeps it real.

Re: New Letter from the Interim Committee: John’s Teaching Schedule – Miami

Hi Van. Before filters can be put in place, maybe the question that one needs to ask oneself is, why do I choose to actively involve myself in all of this activity?

I'm sure the answer for many will be: To avoid ones own experience of feeling deficient or simply just to fill themselves up with an excess of busyness and connection to feel less alone.

Not to get too heavy on ya'... just something to consider. I do :)

Re: Blur

It's a conditioning.

The friendly distractions we are so familiar with are the voices that keep us the same, which is safe. Being present is such a beautifully honed skill. It does not allow for anything but the moment. In the moment anything can happen. Feels risky but the rewards of getting out of your own way are far worth it.

Getting clear (eliminating the blur) will bring up fear. Dealing with the demons that come up around focusing, not feeling stressed, overwhelmed, needed, etc,.. will result in strengthening your will. The stronger your will becomes, the easier it is to remain focused.

I really enjoyed the day. Thanks Chris. You all delivered!

Re: The week in Anusara from around the web

Your most certainly welcome. I'm not one to talk shop with other RE pros in front of my friends and family.

That was the aim from the get go. I created a logo with a link just below my friends list on my profile and asked people to visit me their to talk about Real Estate. From their I've just been trying to add content in different ways - short videos are easy and fun.

About a year ago my wife started referring to her MacBook as a Facebook machine. I knew from then on things were changing for this platform. She's right in my target demo for homebuyers in the city. The numbers are off the charts for traffic, right? So I think a good question would be is why not have a presence there?

With all that said, I find the utility to be a bit aggravating to work with and their constant privacy and UI changes worrisome. We should all be very mindful when building on top of something that belongs to a third party such as Facebook.

Update: as far as features are concerned. The Roost - Social Real Estate App is definitely worth taking a look at: http://www.facebook.com/roost

Re: Food for Prana

Great first post, Rena. Heck, if anything, I'm going to subscribe via RSS to a twitter feed. A reader gives me much greater control and is not subject to mood swings or "influence".

Re: PHP Code for an Author Sidebar Module for a Multi-Author WordPress Blog

awesome. this is just what I was looking for. my wife and I started a new multi-author blog and this was on the wish list. One of the biggest blocks I see with people if that they get stuck in comparisons and self appraisal. To this, I quote Brenda Ueland - "Since you are like no other being ever created since the beginning of time, you are incomparable".

Disengage from the comparisons and judgments. Embrace your individuality.

Re: Is Yelp Missing the Boat?

Hey Hal. I came here via your Pop's tweet. How ya been?

It seems that Yelp's play to business owners is selling them sponsored advertising. They did reach out to me about 6 months ago to share with me how the business owner's non-paid account works complete with a quick Yelp walk through. But the pitch was simply, you can do much better, plus get unlocked/enhanced features if you pay to play. Mind you I'm not opposed to this. I've been a Yelper for a long time now and I see the value. It's just, when you look at what Google is doing with Place Pages, it seems a bit poorly executed when Google offers much more to work with, and for free. The difference is that Google wants you to flesh out a profile and appear for you own relevant search terms (pay to play on keywords). Not just positioning goes to those who pay.

Re: Roost is Bringing Some New Blood to the Blog

Thanks for the warm welcome. Wit, satire, and all. It seemed pretty obvious to me and further endeared me to you as the author of this blog. I would agree that a good balance is in order, but being human comes first. With everything that it is you provide on this site, I would say dirt off your shoulder and move on. Your overall message shines through anything that would be perceived as negative.

Re: The Best Way to Lose Business

It also says something about what we put up with as consumers. For the sake of convenience we will put up with conflict.

Places like this thrive because of location. But what about Walmart?
