Hi. We ran the site on a budget of around $60,000 a year, almost all of which went toward paying reporters. It might cost another organization more, depending on how it was structured.

The bigger issue is that an organization needs to take on the responsibility for operating the site and overseeing reporters, including providing legal support, which is critical on a site like this. We're still hopeful that someone will step up. We live in Boston now, so we couldn't keep running the site's day-to-day operations.

I'm really conflicted about the right way to do this, and lately I've been trying to just get away from maps altogether and use other charts (usually with little stateface icons). But people love maps. Hell, I love maps.

We're still hopeful someone will bring back HWDC. If you're in one of the other cities, you can get in touch with the local editors. I don't know if they need volunteers, but they always appreciate knowing people are reading.

The original jury found him NOT GUILTY by reason of insanity. He was never convicted, and James Brady is the only person who died as a result of the shooting.
