Installation Instructions for

WordPress (self-hosted)

  1. If you are using WordPress 2.7 or above, select Add New under Plugins in the left panel of your admin. Search for "Disqus Comment" and select Install on the first result.
    • For older versions of WordPress, download the plugin after signing up and unpack it into your plugins directory.
    • To do this, place the contents of the archive in your WordPress plugins directory.
      • By default, the plugins directory is /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/
      • You should have a new directory /path/to/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/disqus-comment-system/
  2. Activate the plugin and navigate to Comments.
  3. Login (sign up here) and proceed with the Install process.
  4. If you would like to import your existing WordPress comments into Disqus, select Advanced Options and locate Import.
    • After this process, all future comments will automatically sync Disqus and WordPress.
    • Note: As a safety precaution, we recommend that you backup your database before importing or exporting comments.
