I had *no* sound on my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 card. Windows saw it but didn't seem to have a driver for it.

I downloaded a beta driver from Creative and indeed it's beta alright. Sound is rather distorted.

My Video card (NVIDIA 6800 GT) is supported so that's good (although NVIDIA also has beta drivers).

Vista (Beta 2) has no drivers for either of my printers (HP DeskJet 6840 & Brother MFC 7820N).

Brother does have beta (printer only) drivers, however.

And Vista itself is one heck of a resource hog, and I've got 2GB of RAM and an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU.

Explorer.exe frequently crashes or mysteriously blanks and they redraws. Applications frequently lock up (fortunately it's only briefly).

But again this is a beta. Overall it runs surprisingly well, all things considered.

Boot time is actually faster than XP but once it boots is's overall slower.

Of course, YMMV.

Bravo!I couldn't agree more.It almost seems as if the webmasters are constrained by print editors as to what they can and can't do. And print editors know nothing about web publishing and design.

I just tried it with LiveJournal using your "http://www.livejournal.com/..." example. But that then leaves you with a blanked out user name and password. And as I expect LJ didn't accept it.

So I tried the same URL with Metaweblog and then entering my user name and password as Word requests.

That didn't work either. I tried both again and again and still no go.

In answer to "Dude Guru" MySpace keeps growing simply becuse it's the biggest and most popular.

There are scads of alternatives, including, but not limited to Friendster, hi5, Multiply, Zorpia, NeatVibe, Bebo, Bolt.....

I was very interested in S3 quite some time ago. Then I looked into it. And for a single user (non-business) it was cost-prohibitive. I'd rather use my own web space.

Mac and Linux users are SOL when it comes to this app.

I actually like Jaiku better than Twitter. It's got better features. The problem is, Twitter has been around longer and has a bigger user base.

Not everyone wants to be on all of them.

The biggest problem with Orkut is that somehow it really caught on in Brazil but nowhere else. So unless you speak Portuguese, you're not going to come across to many people you'd want to become friends with.

Yahoo! runs on FreeBSD and provides gratis Internet connectivy for FreeBSD.org

Nevertheless I'm glad to hear that it is Yahoo! that will live on. Both Yahoo! and MSN have good offereings, but Yahoo! offerings are superior.

As long as Yahoo! doesn't lose what it already has I suppose I could live with all this.

I'm still not happy about it, but I do realize that it may end up being the only way Yahoo! will stay alive.
