Is there any reason, other than members getting confused about who is making a comment, that the screen name must be unique? I saw some discussions on the EE forums where a moderator answered questions about this with a definite "no, the screen name must be unique."

I have a site where the only time member names are displayed, it's in the judging section -- regular members never interact with each other, so there's no confusion there. I'm just worried that if I change this, there will be unintended consequences from duplicate names.

It bothers me having to insist that members have to create TWO unique names, one for logging in, and another for their screen name.

Well, here's a theory: if your follower count increased dramatically as a direct result of getting on Twitter's recommended list, you've got a whole bunch of people who aren't necessarily interested in the sorts of things you tweet about. I would imagine it would be a completely different experience with 300,000 followers who had sought you out specifically because they were already interested in what you might say. There is just a huge difference in the level of engagement between people who were already listening to you, and people who didn't know who to listen to, so they picked from a list.

I agree 100%. I dislike hearing experts instructing people to be disingenuous in online social settings out of fear of being known for who they really are. The way I see it, if gaining knowledge of my honest opinions and getting a glimpse into my personal life causes someone to decide against doing business with me, that is for the best -- as I do not intend to live my entire life as a charade.

And when it comes down to decisions of who to do business with, I tend to be put off by those who maintain a spotless, sanitized image with no inkling of the real person behind the digital branding -- in much the same way I have become suspicious of glib PR messages. I would rather be confided in than lied to.

Yes, the language of the bill.

"Intentional, knowing, reckless" is open to so much interpretation that it is tantamount to making miscarriage illegal. Everything from "you should have known better than to go jogging" to "it was reckless when you went out in the snow to go to work, you knew you could slip and fall". It is naive to assume that those interpretations would be limited to only women who did things specifically to cause a miscarriage. Intentional, knowing, and reckless could be applied to any risk taken.

And consider this -- any time a woman miscarried, her behavior would come under scrutiny. Instead of being comforted, she'd be interrogated.

i love your Tumblr theme, I was into Tumblr for awhile but for some reason Posterous has become my favorite ... whatever this type of service is. Well, this is actually good, and it actually looks like it'll cost me what I estimated back a few dozen estimates ago, which is to say, an additional $500/mo over what I am paying now. Which is fine really. Current situation is that I have excellent insurance, and my domestic partner (I've been living with my son's father for 19 years. I won't marry him. Long story) has horrible insurance with dependent coverage that would -- maybe -- pay if there were bills over $5K for either of them. However that goes away after the first of the year because he's quitting his part time job to run a small nonprofit corp (no benefits). Meaning I have to add them both, which ... well, even if we went the option figured on the PDF thingy you were pointed to, would be the same as me adding them to my excellent coverage.

It was actually better to handle the out of pocket for the two of them myself with the huge deductible policy, I spend a lot less than $6K a year that way. But i can't go high-deductible, because I am one of those $1K/month med people (my generic Adderall costs a lot more than yours, maybe because it's 2/day?). And I can't split and pay one kind for them and one for me. And since, technically, I CAN insure them both, I WILL have to.

Which is fine. I will need to make more money, but by next year, I will, so it's all good.

While I start looking for jobs in France. Naah, j/k, I wouldn't do that.

*ahem* anyone want to write me a recommendation on LinkedIn? Even better if it's written in French?

He was also responsible for compiling the Vatican's recent Alma Mater album, which combined Gregorian chants and prayers with classical music and the voice of Pope Benedict XVI speaking in five languages.

"The genres are very different from each other, but all these artists share the aim to reach the heart of good minded people," the Vatican wrote on its official MySpace Music page.

To see what they mean by reaching good-hearted people, I have added the lyrics in the "read more" area of the post.

I looked for some interpretations of the lyrics on the internet, this might explain:

"2pac speaks with more sense than any other rapper did and will ever do... probably because he sees the dark reality of life, puts them in his songs and through them, try to make a difference or at least break the ignorance in others... This song speaks of racial discrimination against the blacks... all i can add up to what 2pac is trying to get through to all of us is that before being black, white, brown or yellow skined... we are all human beings above all. "

And perhaps the Vatican is attempting by choosing this song, to reach out to inner city youth?

I've been thinking that it would be a good thing to devote some energy to finding more positive stories, and supporting wholeheartedly anyone who speaks out in favor of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. I was actually somewhat surprised to find all those things in my feed reader this evening, perhaps I need to add some search terms so I can seek out more positivity.
