This was one of the more surprising bits of research I found, especially because being in the industry, it's far from boring. There are probably a lot of things that can be done, including having more female characters on TV and in the media that partake in these careers in an interesting and compelling way. Exposure to real world workplaces can also make quite an impact. What about a family field trip to Google's office on the way to Disney Land? (Sort of serious). Good luck!

George, we don't share salaries, we just do high level sharing. We iterate through each time and improve the process and communication. Not all the news is going to be good, and sometimes it can be easier to brush the bad news under the rug. But, overall, I think everyone has valued the information.

I would also point out that there is quite a difference between products and services. Bigger isn't always better when offering services, as many big web shops lose process (if they even had it) and you pay top dollar to get shuffled around by junior staff. A company executing on a product (while still may rely on software and technology to do so) has a different set of challenges when going up against a big player, namely consumer adoption.

The growth has enabled us to focus on these goals simply because we have more of a team to execute on projects, whereas in the beginning we were all spread so thin, just trying to make things run. But in terms of the dynamic, I've had experience in both work organizations and collective organizations. Fostering this is really something you can do at any size and any time.
