People express what they think of for search terms the one that is the most relevant. Therefore email marketing roi becomes more relevant as demonstrated by the increase from "email roi @55,900" to email marketing roi to 199,000 (which is more concise). Interestingly enough when someone is setting up to rank for longtails they should go with the ones with the traffic in place. With this search there are very few possiblilities to compete with 8 or 10k so it's not viable as an SEO project. Which you may be thinking where's he coming from? From an internet search standpoint if there is no one looking for it then there isn't any apparent commercial viability.

Just to put out another thing to think on. "Social Media Marketing" has an astounding 3.1 million search results and it is in quotes. To the people trying to rank for this term it's a mistake from an SEO standpoint. I.E. Here are the google results Keyword	Competition	Global Monthly Searches	Local Monthly Searches
Clear selections on other pages
social media marketing roi
390	-	-
Basically millions going for 390 hits per month and they are wasting their time working to page one of Google. I'll get away from my speciality.

One last thought: Social media has touched upon substantially higher amounts of people in a relevant way. The other types of media marketing are almost proportionately represented by the groups of people who can afford to utilize them or have it as part of their vocation. Just saying. :)

Thanks for the great post and letting me give you my "two cents". :)
Corporations are adopting and the ones have consultants which are generally early adopters instructing them and implementing things are recognizing huge roi's. Judging from your example it's a quick first attempt based on other models that aren't contextually accurate, but when they refine it, it'll gradually reflect more of what is relevant and useful. The others don't have the data to utilize for an algorithm to do proper testing, though if Yelp has enough data for a small baseline, they'd most likely have a more relevant and predictable outcome than Google has at this moment.

Re: Will The New York Times meter kill traffic from social media?

After the New York Times start charging for access there will rarely be a comment since it wouldn't be worth my time. With so many companies jumping on the bandwagon with no guidance and many times no clue about what they might expect some are finding out it's not for them. It's great that you outlined some of the situations as well as behavioral and attitudinal changes it'll take in order to curb the unexpected for the companies considering utilizing Social Media.

"Don’t use Twitter if your intern will be running the campaign." One of the things that companies often misunderstand is that it's about branding or potential profits, but about conversations which will lead the company to what needs to change. Utilizing the intern can be detrimental since the qualified company representative on Twitter (or any Social Media Platform) would be utilizing their personality product knowledge and able to keep it in the constraints of the company mandated guidelines and ensure consistency which is what people look for since it's component of Social Proof.

I trust that companies will adopt Social Media with their eyes wide opened, with their focus on enlarging their sphere of influence and more importantly to not only serve the communities, but to seek to make ongoing decisions to change as needed. It's an opportunity for companies to have ongoing fluid market research being done in an organic manner that is truly as natural as human interact. What a beautiful thing that is!

Re: Reporting Back on Wavelogging

It's great that you did this experiment to utilize Google Wave instead of your blog. The conversational aspect is definitely a plus. As I read through your post and found that the threading function isn't working properly. That's definitely a downer since without that function working properly things can't be communicated back and forth in order to keep the discussion going. The other negative that I can see is detrimental is the lack of control and the fact that other people can mess it up.

It's definitely a great platform for putting things up spontaneously to discuss and collaborate.

Re: Job Seeker Takeaways

It's great to see this type of venue for the job seeker. The advice given is from professionals that know what they are looking for and how to get their clients ready to get the job. The live coaching also serves to give the job seeker the skills necessary to gain the much needed competitive edge which could very well not only land them the desired job faster, but most likely a higher paying one. There are times when presentation is everything when it comes to moving into the desired position and securing the job offer with a good package.

Re: 10 Foursquare Apps You Can Use Right Now

Go Gowalla FTW!!!

Re: 10 Foursquare Apps You Can Use Right Now

That looks like a great choice for your localized NC Triangle.

Re: 11 Predictions for The Online Video Industry In 2010

Thanks for the great post that is well written as well as thought out and cohesive. More importantly your predictions are on the bold side, but not without basis. Am trusting that the closed caption functions improve and was delighted that you caught the You Tube "You To" as well. It'll be an improvement if the major search engines have a universal standardization for indexing in place so it'll be more predictable. This is going to be a great year with many more changes in video affecting the users and the SEO methods. There still needs to be a cohesive manner for them to improve local search and more fully utilize geo-targeting and interpreting the results in a more natural and intuitive manner. :) My Two Cents!

Re: When the Student Becomes the Teacher

That's definitely a great example of the virtues of inter-generational learning. This is a bad idea since the ones it would affect are the people on fixed incomes, lower income households and disabled people. It's discriminatory in nature since it will exclude some of their customer base. I'm not interested in this and the FCC needs to intervene as well as Congress putting laws into effect to protect the consumers.

Re: Enough With The Social Media Guru Attacks

It's to bad that people feel like they have to knock each other to gain the advantage. It'd be much more positive and social responsible (which should be a part of being in social media in addition to conversations)to DM on Twitter or send a private message on Facebook if you disagree or you have differences. It's interesting when you do that people gain a mutual understanding and in the end there's the potential for mentoring and who knows, perhaps some consulting, collaboration, or perhaps a joint venture. Don't kill off the newbies to protect yourself. It takes your credibility away as well as the others in the same discipline.

Re: Facebook Wave: Why Facebook Should Clone Google Wave

I always have to laugh when I read about people wondering is Facebook going to kill email. As an avid user of Facebook the feature I dislike is there communication system. It isn't remotely a replacement and it has a small place in the world of social networking for me. But it's a great part in that it's enjoyable, brings consistent opportunities to connect, and great entertainment as well.

As far as the Title " Should Facebook Clone Google Wave?" I don't believe it's ever a good idea to clone, but to take ideas away and customize them to your platform is yet another thing. Google wave could end up being a fad or it could survive and gain market share quickly. Though my invite hasn't come in and I'm still ill informed on Google Wave at least experientially it'd seem that it is a good concept, but perhaps better left to Google. The raw computing power in the infrastructure, the manpower, and the scalability could very well turn into a challenge even for Google. Remember they've been having service problems even before the formal release of Google Wave.

My Two Cents!
