Talk about out of place, well get this...
Shawn is a tall skinny kid, a college grad, and he happens to be a white guy. Why he chose to come and live among us folk of a darker persuasion, I'll never know. What I do know is that he has courage, and the wherewithal to put action to the things he says out of his mouth.

His book gives a unique perspective because it takes a look at people of color through an outsiders eyes. It gives a pointed view of places and areas that don't have many residents who are NOT people of color. He pokes a pin in the bubbles of stereotype. The ones that existed in his own mind, as well as the minds of people like him.

The sad truth lies in the fact that we all have flaws. A close look at the great men of the Bible will show that each one had their issues. It is important that the gospel message goes forward... not personal agenda and comfort. The use of a private plane might aid in furthering of the gospel message, but so will methods that are far less extravagant and expensive.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

It does not matter how gifted and motivating the messenger is... when the message is not of God, it is emptied of it's value. When it places a burden on the backs of those struggling already, it is itself a stumbling block. Something the people of God are instructed not to cause or create. Pride and ego have gotten in the way of many who stood in the place of greatness. They have also been the very things that showed up just before the fall.

Thank You for stopping by with a bit of insight.

I am in no way suggesting that we should ever turn a blind eye to sin. In all cases it should be rebuked, period. As you have said, it is the action that should draw our attention. Especially when that action is the act of a would be follower of Christ. We are all sinners and no matter how we view the degree of severity, big or small... our sin carries the same penalty as that of anyone else... DEATH. That is why we all need a Saviour. From the least of us to the worst of us, Jesus dispensed the love of God to all, while we were yet sinners. At the core level, this is what Christ following must entail, the love of the sinner... while hating the sin. The Gospel is called the "Good News" for good reason. It seeks to provide hope and give opportunities to include the sinner at God's table in His household. While Jesus was critical in His rebuke, His aim was more in the way of warning and advisement, addressing the error of the action. His admonishment was as much an expression of disappointment as it was disapproval. YES... we can ill afford to ignore the sinful act of others. They must be addressed, but not at the expense of the sinner. The very individuals that as men and women of God, we are charged in reaching. Lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

The last time I checked, “Christians”, or “Followers of Christ”, were supposed to be doing just that…
“Following Christ.”
According to the gospel of Luke, Jesus quoted from the prophet Isaiah to announce His ministry in fulfillment of the scriptures.

Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

It seems to me that this was and still is the example that Jesus gave for all who would be called by His name. As He followed not His own will, but that of the Father; I can’t for the life of me understand why the community of “Christian Folk” have replaced the “Fathers Business” with that of their own.

Scripture tells us that on more than one occasion Jesus looked on the crowds with compassion. It speaks of His ability to place Himself in their place… indeed that is ultimately the place where the work of the cross led Him. We are never more that those among us. Remembering to hold out a bit of empathy first in our criticism of others will allow us to temper it through the filter of love. The goal is to develop a relationship built on trust and respect instead of fear and appeasement. Only then will the spirit of cooperation and understanding have a chance at development.

When you stand in the mirror you see your image... step away and it's gone. We are made in the image of God and every image need the real thing in order to exist. The thing is without a clean spirit... without being holy as best as we can manage through Christ; what we reflect won't be the image of God. We take ourself out of view by allowing a false image to replace what should be there. Seperate from this unclean world and reflect the real thing.

In this day and age with the entire clamor for instant this and instant that, the time necessary to check and understand your sources has almost gone the way of history. This is a good reminder of how those small steps off the path can become huge detours. If one does not remain careful they could find themselves very much lost.

We think of jobs and work in a temporal sense but as you note, work is ordained. Each of us is given an assignment that is ongoing and life long. Simply put; we are to follow The Will of God. To set ourselvs apart from the pattern of the world is a standard to which we ascribe and set a pattern for others to follow. Our walk is the work we do; when done through the heart of Christ... it's a job well done.

In Biblical time both father and mother was applied as a term of respect more so than to denote your parent. Honoring them is directed through the commandments. It is to our downfall thet this example is not followed in society today. It just goes to show another of the lessons that we can learn from scripture.

THIS IS A VERY POWERFUL STATEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!

The words are percise, the pictures are stunning, and the message needs to be preceived. All to often we focus on what we have or don't have when the fact is simply this. Nothing belongs to us anyway and we should seek ways in which to share. Everything was set in place by our Heavenly Father long before we arrived. We brought nothing into the world and will take nothing out. It is a tragedy how greed and selfishness has disproportioned the great wealth of treasures that God has placed for all. Humanity is in need of a realignment... and fast. I pray that we change our view to see the problem before we destroy ourselves.

The short answer is no, at least not now if we ever were. The analysis of the question makes the answer obsolete. I think a good many Christians spend too much time focusing on the state of the nation and not enough time focusing on God. What we do in our walk should reflect an example of Christ. This is the best encouragement we can give for others to do the same. The emphasis should be in the service that we give and not what’s being done around us.

John 13:15-17 (NIV) I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

The pleasure of God will rest on those of us who keep faith in His promises; not with those who point out the short comings of others. Each will receive a reward in accordance with what they have done.

Revelation 22:10-12 (NIV) Then he told me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near. Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy." "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.
