That's a pretty weak offering. Portishead's 'Third' is outstanding, but the overall narrowness of the poll (i.e. weak sauce indie rock) is what's most depressing. 2008 hasn't been a great year for music by any standard, but the glaring omissions in that list make it look like the end is extremely fucking nigh for music.

Lastly, Death Cab for Cutie are the Air Supply of a new generation.

That looks painful, but the telling is hilarious. I have a bruised shin myself after a particularly violent game of beach soccer last Saturday. I did score four goals and was able to run 13 miles Sunday morning, so it wasn't all bad.

I'm thinking that they might be a good addition to my blog, too. I've
been seeing them in use all over the place and they have so many
advantages: the email notifications are great, as is the opportunity
to put those comment threads on lifestreaming services and what-not.
I'm trying the email reply function right now. I'm curious to see how
it works.

I think I'll take 'overly critical' to mean 'critical' here. Listening Post read like a PR clearinghouse more than a blog. Rarely did they criticize the latest music 2.0 scheme that amounted to little more than some free music built within a boring social network. Don't even get me started on Scott Thill's rockism.
