No, discontinued is a good thing! The lapdock was $500 when they first came out, but I just grabbed a surplus one for $50. BTW, he *is* running Ubuntu.

Same here, dude. I've been loving my iPad2 since it came out. I don't see too many android users saying they love their tablets..... : )

You should check out Flipboard, if you haven't already. It makes Reddit greater, and FB isn't too bad. Not sure about how it handles Twitter; I haven't been tweeting lately.

Yeah, same here. I haven't upgraded yet, still trying to get a full sync. But my app perfected folders are totally blown.

Hopefully this will be the last time though, with iCloud and all.

I've seen reviews saying it's required to download iTunes 10.5, do a full sync, backup, and transfer purchases, then upgrade. I'm doing it right now on a machine I don't normally sync with. Wish me luck.

Did you get the "Purchased" tab in your App Store, like on the iPad? That should make it easier to restore your apps form the iCloud, at least.

As for CNC resources, I suppose YouTube is where I learned the most. I don't recall any specific resources.

After not getting to touch the Tourmach at TechShop, I purchased my own 7 x 7 CNC subtractive mill from ZenToolworks. I'm still getting it tested, as I also started building a RepRap Prusa 3D printer.

I didn't intend to discount TechShop. They're doing good things for people who don't have access to the machines. My personal beef was that the three required intro to CNC classes weren't offered within the same month. I'd prefer to take all three of the classes the same day, just to get them out of the way. The machine is the thing I needed, not the classes.

I'm disappointed that this set of articles focuses mostly on the TechShop. I tried them out at Christmas time, getting their Christmas special of 1 month membership and three classes for $99. I wanted to use their Tormach CNC router.

TechShop required me to take three classes before I could even touch the Tormach machine. The classes were only offered two weeks apart, so I could not get onto the machine within 30 days if I tried. The intro to CNC class (required) was two hours wasted; I'm internet educated on CNC, and I could've taught the intro class. I was disheartened with TechShop, who seemed more interested in making me take crappy classes than getting me on the machines.

I recommend finding and joining your local hackerspace instead.

This is a great list! I never would've thought of some of these. One use is close to a few of these, but not exactly...

Whenever I write something (on a piece of paper) I take a picture of it. I don't use paper and pen often, so it's usually something I'll need to know later, and tracking paper sucks..

A coworker also showed me a picture of the back of his entertainment system, in which he was installing the connections 'round the back by feel. A quick shot shows you where the ports are!

They say ..."if". Didn't the former Kindle run on Sprint's Whispernet, using the older, slower bandwidth channels as opposed to 3G? I certainly don't want another monthly account for a consumption device.

I'm as intrigued with cheap, slow cellular data connections on embedded controllers everywhere. As in self-blogging,image uploading cat collars. Just gimme a sim card with a daily limit that cannot be exceeded on a slow connection for $5/mo.

I'd say having six different ways to program for Symbian might have hurt developer uptake. It's confusing. I like the idea of one SDK per platform, if the SDK is strong enough to do everything desired.

I just got my iPad2 last Friday, and I went crazy downloading all the HD apps I could find. These Adobe apps look promising. You should also check out Autodesk's apps, which are also very impressive!

I'm really wondering about the impact iMovie will make on the iPad2. I'm guessing we'll see an explosion of videos on Youtube that are more polished because of iMovie on the iPad.

It looks like he's filming with the front-facing camera, because he's looking at the screen occasionally. I'd say the video quality is plenty good enough!

This seems good. I also know that ES File Manager has a built-in Applications manager that can backup installed apps to an APK file on the SD card. Very useful!

I use the beagleboard to play with embedded OSs without buying a bunch of phones. I've solid installs of Android 2.3, Ubuntu 10.10 and Angstrom Linux. It'll also run Symbian, Meego, and Maemo and prolly a few others.

This Tegrabased system is attractive for all the ports and storage. It'd make a nice set-top box too.

I guess OS modder might enjoy this thing. I've got a Beagleboard running nicely here on my desktop, which can run a few different OSs. This Tegra desktop should be a lot faster, and should run many of the same OSs. I wonder how much it'll cost in US$?
