I traveled in Egypt and Jordan with a guy from Montreal who had a custom cargo vest made and cargo pants and was able to take everything he needed for a 6 month trip in just his pockets. (It wasn't much more than money, a sarong/towel/blanket and a notebook.) The problem with this, is that he was held up by security at every border check, and I had to lie, explaining that his belongings were in my bag or that his luggage was stolen, otherwise it looked too suspicious.
