Not that I really pay much attention to the actual events on the Friday, seems to be a little overwhelming for me. But these post digests are much more manageable and seem more relevant.

Keep up the solid work here on Woork, big fan of yours.

Graham

Re: 85+ of the Best Twitterers Designers Should Follow

There was certainly a surge of followers following this post which was pretty neat. First time ImJustCreative has been mentioned on Mashable, and given the readership, it certainly has been interesting to see the rise of followers on Twitter.

Useful to see it broken down as well into categories, rather than just one huge lump of 'designers' which frankly does cover a few sub specialities.

Thank you for the mention in this list, appreciate the time it must have taken to put together.

Regards
Graham

Re: Dear Web ‘Celebrity’ Who Never Follows Anyone Back

Graham Smith,

Never did I say "Celebrities MUST follow EVERYONE or ELSE they are clearly BAD people!"

I said "Social media (web) celebrities who make a game out of collecting AS MANY followers as POSSIBLE while striving to FOLLOW NOBODY back are kinda creepy."

To me that is the essential definition of a snob.

Re: Dear Web ‘Celebrity’ Who Never Follows Anyone Back

Please bear that in mind when you start throwing aroud words like 'snob'. Doesnt do anyone any good. The people that follow these people should be doing so because they value what that person has to say or just find them interesting. They should not then expect a follow back. If you do follow someone and expect a follow back then you are totally missing the point.

I for one follow plenty of people that dont follow me back. Why should I assume that just because they find me interesting they will find 'me' interesting? Doesn't work that way, and to think otherwise shows a woeful undestandting of social intereaction both physically and virtually.

So i don't blow a strop when after 2 weeks they still havn't followed me, and in my strop I go and unfollow them. That's just utterely childish and frankly, immature.

Now, if you are saying all this because Twitter is your life it is what you do full-time then fair enough. You have time to spend chatting to 1000's of people. But a lot of us dont. I have a job to service and Im not on Twitter to appease anyone or provide a public service, although many people seem to think that I am. Don't make sweeping generalizations when there are plenty of other factors to take into account. Namely, are you on Twitter all day every day, or is Twitter a in between working action? This will affect how many people can be effectively followed
Also, if you are or a lame insincere nature then again, go ahead and follow all 30k people that are following you. Spammers and zombie internet marketers included.

If I follow 'you' back it is because I have seen your tweets via other means, you have taken time to converse with me, to hook me in, you have Retweeted some of my Tweets. This means that person knows Im not just following them out of some insincere naive Twitter ritual, they know its because I have taken a personal interest with them.

Enough of the fake sincerity already. If people don't or can't service an equal number of people that are following them then who are you to say they are being nooby or snooty? You are not. Its just part of the complexity of Twitter, you can generalise these things.

Re: Why Do You Digg/Twitter? Strangely, I thought I had replied to you 4 weeks ago when you wrote your original comment. Either way, you definitely have a knack for looking at many different sides of an issue, and boy oh boy did you really get going on this one! Thanks again for sharing your time and thoughts with us all.

Re: Why Do You Digg/Twitter? A Lesson In Etiquette

Interesting article. Covers many points some I agree whole heartedly with, some of course I don't. But needless to say, it's great for someone to come out with these thoughts in the first place. Heck, I do. :)

I agree with the whole DIGG, FLOAT request thing. I don't do it. As tempting as it is to get your post and blog receiving more visits due to the publicity, I don't like asking people to do so. Saying that, because I don't ask, barely any of my posts get Stumbled, DUGG or FLOATED. So that's probably saying something about my post quality. :)

The only posts that I tend to ask for support on are the ones that are 'for other people', ie, SoulTweet. I don't see the problem asking people to help and support worthwhile causes, but I usually only ask for support and RT's.

Regarding Self promotion. I disagree with this. Mostly because I do it ofcourse, but the end results for me are that I can offer bigger publicity for the offshoot projects like Wearejustcreative, Monoexpression, Soulttweet and lovehelvetica.

These are sites that benefit the community as a whole, so in order to publicise them i need to promote them.

There is a fine line, but ultimately, twitter is still a tool to be used how you see fit. If you don't like someones use of Twitter then the old failsafe, get out clause is don't follow. It is that easy.

Same with TV. If you don't like the shows being aired, then you turn over or turn off as they will always be more people liking and enjoying those shows.

It's the minority in these cases that tend to be more annoying than the people they are 'bashing'. I for one will continue to use Twitter for self gain and also to gain publicity for the more community aspects.

As I said, sweet article and gets people thinking.

But, be careful how you critique people or how people in general use a service that is pretty much self governed. 'Your' (not just you personally but generally) acts of criticism can be as annoying for some people as you find the act of self promotion annoying for you.

I have more than enough restraint and self etiquette when needed, but also allow myself to shoot off from the deep end when I so desire.

Twitter by nature is a very public AND personal media, the freedom of free speech is totally applicable here. To criticise how someone else conducts themself is your act of free speech, but also accept that people will generally rebutt against this more than the people who are able to maximise Twitter for self gain, especially in these troubled times.

As a note, ALL my work comes direct from Twitter and other online methods, I will use it how I see fit. :)

Learn to live with it would be my advice, or unfollow.
Graham

Re: Cool canadian webstore beer logo

I really am taken with this logo, so simple in terms of the logo type and a nicely executed volume of beer in the 'b'. If anyone wants to follow me on Backtype, its http://backtype.com/imjustcreative

Sneaky I know, but it serves a purpose which is to help promote the sites I participate in. Including this comment here, people that follow me on Twitter and Backtype will see I have left two comments here today, which should then push more traffic here.

Everyone wins. :)

Re: A Crash Course in Comments

One of the most useful services I have found is Backtype.

It's so interesting to be able to see what people where people, people you follow say on Twitter or elsewhere, leave comments. And ofcourse what they write.

I have found many a new blog or website through tracking comments by the people I am following on Backtype.

I use the Twitter option to post a daily update of my own comments left, so it encourages people to check what is interesting to me that day.

Every post I read, come across or see on a RT, that I find interesting is ALWAYS bookmarked in Delicious and more often than not given a Thumbs up. As you say, it only takes moments. And will do this even if I have not left an actual comment.

So leaving comments are not the only way to show your appreciation which is the best thing about these other services, you can use what fits in with your routine.

Great post,

Graham

Re: Tom Beardshaw › Tangled Up In Blue: Sweetcron theme

I keep meaning to set up Sweetcron, i have a domain specifically for it, just lazy on my part. Alertthingy already is becoming more and more 'noisy'.

Adding more functionality, although tempting, will just create a beast. Short of adding specfic columns etc, having all this current data and proposed data in one single column is just way to unreadable and unmanageable.
