What I liked about this video is that the filmmakers used low cost tools available to anyone to "up the production value." Not everyone can afford full HD 1080p, professional boom mics, lighting and everything it takes to make a broadcast quality production. But you can still produce high quality YouTube HD at 720p with pocket cams and a few accessories. I thought what Don Lemon from CNN had to say about the shift in news reporting is very telling of how far things have shifted to the UGC aesthetic.

Re: Online Video Platform Summit Program and Speaker Announcement

Hey Kevin, it's going to be a great show! I'll look into it though. The monthly rental price is very affordable when you consider the bandwidth costs alone at hotel rates for dedicated bandwidth and static IP. Livestream has a free, ad-supported service, and a premium service that gives producers advanced features (remove ads, high quality, widescreen, white label, privacy options, etc.) starting at $350 per month.

Re: I have an announcement!

Larry! So nice to see a note from you! Yes, San Diego is nothing to sneeze at... I'm discovering great little neighborhoods all over the place. Actually parts of downtown remind me of the East Bay! So glad you know about my new job. I'd love your feedback and comments as I try to integrate web video into the Sony Electronics blog... both mine and UGC. Sony is lucky to have you as their new corporate blogger vlogger. You're going to have a blast and get paid for it too! Thanks, I did check out your blog and subscribed. We are interested in the same topics and I'm glad to connect with you. I'll be writing some posts on virtual conferences and events in the near future. I've been producing a lot of virtual events for corporate clients combining video and web conferencing over the last year.

Re: Google To Acquire On2 Technologies for $106.5M, How Disruptive Is It Really?

This will most definitely give Google the edge in an area it has not been before. As I made my way through the various discussions it all pointed to a major game-changer for the online video industry which digging its roots into search, marketing and advertising. We'll know more in the next coming months and it will be very interesting indeed. ;-)

Re: eMarketer Report Says Online Video Coming Into Focus, 188 Million US Viewers by 2013

Hi Kye, sorry for the delayed response. It is pretty remarkable when you consider the forecast that 64% of the video growth will be mobile. I agree that the mobile video needs vast improvements too and I think we'll see that in time with the roll out of the 4G network. We'll also see a lot of development in that area when the Apple tablet and others hit the market.

Re: 6 Essential Social Media Tools for Start-Ups

Great social media "Dummies Guide" for for start ups. TubeMogul has also emerged as a leader in the online video space and it's no surprise that they are a key partner in this announcement. I use both Blip and TubeMogul to distribute and syndicate my videos and I'm particularly interested in seeing the opportunities for web television creators grow.

Re: Ooyala is Focused on Personalizing the New Media Experience

Hi Kye, thanks for your comment. Using video to engage customers is a real way to monetize your business rather than following the broadcast TV model of selling ads to buy airtime. The video Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos produced to discuss the purchase of Zappos yesterday is a great example of this. While the video is on YouTube and not on his site it's follows the trend you say about being more realistic with consumers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hxX_Q5CnaA&feat...

Re: Ooyala is Focused on Personalizing the New Media Experience

See Michael Arrington's post this evening on Techcrunch for more information. Excerpted below:

Ooyala Hits Profitability In A Crowded Market, Looking For A New CEO

http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/22/ooyala-hit...

"... Bismarck Lepe, the current CEO, says he’s actually been looking for his replacement for the last year. This isn’t being driven by the venture investor, Sierra Ventures, he says. And in fact the founding team retains stock and board of directors voting control, making their consent a requirement of any CEO change. Lepe just feels as though he isn’t necessarily the guy to take the company to the next level, whatever that may be. So he’s retained a search firm to find someone better than him to run Ooyala..."

Re: Ooyala is Focused on Personalizing the New Media Experience

Hi Larry, I checked with Ooyala and the company has confirmed it has been looking at CEO candidates to see if there is great talent out there. You make some great points about the way the media focused on Dr. Manhattan's blue private parts but that's what they do when they don;t understand art. Regardless of the criticism it will be celebrated by fans for years to come.

Re: Veeple Extends Reach With Bitgravity

Hi Scott, I love the contextual perspective. Online video publishing is a growing industry with many opportunities. It's the only medium where small independent producers can compete with the Hollywood studios . Even in this down economy the money still flows. Beet.TV says, "According to the Kelsey Group, an advertising research firm, small businesses will spend $1.5 billion in Web video advertising in 2012." The internet video company Turnhere uses a global network of filmmakers to produce a 1,000 corporate videos every month.

http://money.cnn.com/2009/01/21/smallbusiness/t...
http://www.beet.tv/2009/01/small-businesses-to-...

Re: Flash Encoding Resources: Bit Rate Calculator and Optimal Aspect Ratios

Thanks for your comment.
