Should have clarified in the review. I only revealed myself after paying, since I wanted them to know I thought their pizza was great. Normally I NEVER say who I am, but if a place warrants a good review, I will inform them that they will be reviewed.

Well, we finally took a trip to New Haven, just for the pizza. Both Sally's and Pepe's were huge disappointments. I have to assume the folks touting these places as "Great!" are those that grew up (or went to college) enjoying them, and love them based on those associations. Living in Maryland, I hear folks praising the local chain Ledo's (which, actually, tastes kind of similar to the New Haven type, now that I think about it), and I know it's because they just don't know any better.

As an "outsider" in New Haven, I found them totally unremarkable. In all honestly, I would not order either of these for delivery, much less make a special trip for them. At least at Pepe's we did not have to wait. At Sally's we waited 4 hours (yes, seriously) outside, and then sat inside another half hour waiting for our order to be taken. These folks clearly don't care about customer service (or perhaps it's just that we were not "regulars." We did see others just walk right in, bypassing the line, so there must be varying levels of service.) We wanted to try it, and we did.

I realize I might be falling into the same bias, I grew up in New York, so I think pizza there is best. . . Nah, it really *is* better there! :)

he told me he's been usin grande since theyve opened.....not just the pizza but eveything is very very good there and the portions are huge...

Normally grande is something I could pick out when I taste it, so I would have to come back and make sure for myself they use it. Maybe they recently switched or something.

I wasn't bashing Amato's Pizza, just point out that I prefer fountain soda. Many of my readers know this and like to know when there is no fountain soda available.}

Don't call your son lazy. You're the critic. Be a real dad. Ask him if he enjoyed the experience and the pizza. That should be what matters most to you, not the stupid soda.

If your son is over 18 and has aspirations to be critic like yourself, then I take it back. He is lazy. If not, let him be a kid.

I wasn't bashing Amato's because of their canned soda, just pointing out that I prefer fountain and to some of my readers, several actually....they like to know when a place doesn't have fountain.

Hopefully my son will review his slice soon, but for now he is being too lazy to complete it.

I am in the Boca Location Of Josephs a good amount during the week and as a result ive become friendly with the staff. I have had their pizza many times and couldnt have been happyer with my purchase. I lived in Brooklyn my whole life before moving to FL and can honestly say that this is the only pizza that can even call itself NY style. After reading this article i was curious to how something like pictured above would ever get produced in a market like that. Also, i wanted to make sure the FL heat didnt hinder my judgement of what a good slice of pizza was. I soon came to realize that after the opening of this location, they had an issue with their "pizza guy's" quality and he was soon replaced. Im not denying that those pictures arent JCM Pizza, However i know for a fact that Pizza from Josephs will never look like that agian

We have no issues with the vegetables, and gourmet items. I have actually been back a few times to get the meatballs etc, but I will avoid the pizza. In my opinion it was awful
