Not ideal, but then again around me Target is one of the few places that carries this stuff.

I got very, very lucky and showed up to a Target on its opening night and managed to snag a Baroness. One in a million chance. It shouldn't be like that: two empty pegs of Joes and empty Star Wars pegs while there's just walls of McFarland DC and even the Fortnite stuff isn't moving around here.

Re: Hasbro: G.I. I think I love it?

This is definitely the TV show and not the comic book Commander. Just over the top ridiculous.

But I’m into it. I wasn’t going to jump into this line, but between Destro and Commander I think I’m going to have to.

Re: Does Batman Still Have His Scars – Or Doesn’t He?

Okay.

I'll bite.

Let's play "Marvel No-Prize" with this:

The scar Alfred is talking about is a childhood scar. Which is so old that it grew up with Bruce. Became part of him in a way his adult scars are less a part of him.

Does it make total sense? No, it makes poetic sense. Neither does magical metal that can bring you back from the dead.

Re: LEGO Dimensions Expansions Trailer: Harry Potter, Goonies, Gremlins & more

Now that Disney Infinity has been scrapped I'm going to start holding out hope that we get Marvel/Star Wars characters in Lego Dimensions in a year or two.

Re: Tom Hardy DC Movie Teased - /Film

Tom Hardy knows Transmet?

Can that guy get any cooler?

Also: I have an encyclopedic knowledge of DC and I have no fucking clue what he's talking about here. Could be Doom Patrol, could be The Invisibles... and when he says "it's real estate" I start to think about a Tom Hardy Vertigo theme park. All the different genres he mentions makes me think Invisibles-- that could be Ocean's Eleven. The "could be Batman" and "Pulp Fiction" vibes are straight out of Vol. II.

When he talks about TV and movies it starts to sound like a transmedia play... something like what was being talked about for the Dark Tower. Maybe A few tentpoles linked by Netflix/HBO series?

Re: New Tomorrowland Trailer: Crazy Gadgets Bring Action

Haven't been super-vocal about it: but I've been looking forward to this since it was announced and nothing has changed that.

Re: New Tomorrowland Poster; Trailer Arrives Monday - /Film

BUT WHEN WILL THEY BE SELLING THE PINS AGAIN AT DISNEYLAND?????

Re: New Tomorrowland Poster; Trailer Arrives Monday - /Film

That which has been built is already the past, they're looking at the future.

Re: The Russo Brothers Sony Deal - /Film

Joaquin Phoenix as Korvac?

Re: The Star Wars Rebels Canon Changed Star Wars History

What's most of interest with Rebels, canon-wise, is seeing what has survived the Disney Purge. As a lot of folks have pointed out on here the stuff that Germaine has locked onto--Inquisitors, Holocrons, trick lightsabers, and Mandalorians--have either long been established by in the Expanded Universe (starting with the West End Games Star Wars RPG, which acted as the defacto "show bible" in the early years of the EU) or in Clone Wars.

The biggest point of controversy remains just how much the history of the Mandalorians have been revamped in the past twenty years.

It's not terribly surprising that a Dave Filoni show is going to absorb heavy elements of Clone Wars, for the obvious reasons. What *will* be surprising is if *any* of Clone Wars is discarded in the Reformed Canon in favor of other elements from the EU, now repurposed as Legends.

What will be even *more* surprising is if the Story team can actually keep one continuity across all the media and have it *count*. That's not something anyone in any franchise has really pulled off before. Not for any length of time, anyway.

Re: Supergirl Casting: Dean Cain and Helen Slater to Guest Star

Have to say: I love the way Berlanti honors the casts of earlier incarnations in his shows. Does Wordpress or, heck, LiveJournal want to be the whole Internet?

The more interesting use cases of Medium are Epic, The Magazine, and Matter. They are using it as a CMS. That's all.

Gruber's later quoting of Anil Dash's piece in August comparing Medium to YouTube was interesting. It's a way of taking the lessons learned in the video world and applying it to long form. It might *become* the biggest marketplace of long form, but it won't be the whole Internet. Nor do I think that that is the aspiration here.

In fact, they really don't *push* the kind of temporary trend-piece that my Medium post is. They push pieces on autism and more personal essays.

Re: Asking the Wrong Question — Andrea Phillips

So I got invited to the same think tank, and I too recoiled a bit when I saw what the core question was.

Given that I know most of the organizers, and consider some of them friends, I started scratching my head. "Is this really what needs to be on the table? Does the, actually rather tiny, core transmedia community need to have a final battle royale?"

No and yes.

I think the implied goal of the think tank is to get the various bullhorn carriers to stop fighting about definitions and move on to answering exactly the questions your posing, Andrea. I too wish that the discussion had been framed that way. Yet every time the group as an aggregate whole gets together the conversation turns to "what do we call this?"

That has to stop. It has to stop for the very reasons you outline. Everyone is looking at the phenotypes of the projects, instead of trying to find what uniquely binds the community together. What problems do those who are drawn to the transmedia discussion face in their daily practice that, say, another media producer doesn't face?

What is the underlying DNA all this--often very awesome--art share?

I don't think that the gathering next month can or will settle the definition issue, but I do think that there's a chance it can get the debates going in different directions without the carnival atmosphere of a Facebook thread. If what comes out of the tank is a hideous mutant that needs to be put down, I'm sure that it will be drawn and quartered within days.

Deadlines permitting I'll be in attendance, doing what I try and do at all these events: listen and reflect back what I'm hearing. Try to help find the common ground between the participants. Push a little so that folks try and see the similarities between their work and not so much the differences.

Re: Disable Chrome's Print Dialog and Use the OS X System Dialog Instead

Thank you!
