This story doesn't pass the basic sniff test.

Consider: 80% of the nursing staff out at the same time? What have they been doing this whole time? Haven't they been getting exposed, even with masks and other protective gear, near continuously since the outbreak? Ignoring the civilian numbers which also don't make sense – just the claim about nurses makes no sense. The claim about medical staff makes no sense.

The people who should have had the largest amount of continuous, ongoing exposure are suddenly all falling sick at the same time? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I doubt any data coming out of China but this story in particular is crap.

Even when I disagree with him – which is a surprising amount of the time – I feel like he understands the world much better than the people who are running, squealing, looking ridiculous as they descend into obvious self-parody.

I would rather have him in charge of most anything, even given that he and I disagree, then many of the people whom I ostensibly agree with who don't evidence clear reasoning and motivation for what they do.

Exactly. And this is sitting there in one of the most accessible networks on the planet with all the receipts showing, names named, and people can literally pull it up on their phone and show it to their body while sitting out in the deer stand.

The first step to understanding New Media (and I consciously use a term introduced a decade or more ago) is realizing that it's 24/7, available to the consumer whenever they want. Journalists don't matter.

Which is, in short, exactly what they are terrified about becoming common knowledge. And secondarily, terrified that they themselves will recognize that they COULD matter if they just did the job everyone thought they were doing in the first place.

But that's work.

I think that's an untoward assumption and assertion which doesn't actually fit with the world as we see it.

The media doesn't care to cover this regardless of when it drops. They've ignored it in the middle of the week, they've ignored it at the beginning of the week and they've ignored it at the end of the week. They will continue to ignore it no matter what. Because they want to ignore it. And they will as long as they can continue to feel as if it profits them to do so.

But even more disturbing and ultimately wrong is the idea that we should really not expect journalists to work on Friday.

You know what? Friday is a great day to drop stories that you want the public to talk about. The public works every day. The public is there no matter what. And if you want them to talk about it with their friends, families, and everyone else over the weekend – Friday is a fantastic day for that.

That the mainstream failures can't be bothered to get out of bed on Friday and do their damn job and they will leave it alone until Monday, when every Tom Dick and Harry has already discussed it, chewed it over, provided more substance and more examples for THREE DAYS before the lying liars what lie can get their hooks in?

That's not a bad decision.

That's a solid decision.

In a reasonable discourse where people actually talk about policies, they would bleed themselves out. At least if the voters actually want those policies.

You know, in a healthy, functioning political environment, this wouldn't be happening. It wouldn't have to. We wouldn't see primary season turning into blood sport, in part because it never works.

All both men have to say is, "I respect my fellow Republican, I believe he's achieved great things for the Republic, and we agree on far more things than we disagree on. Otherwise we would not be members of the same party. When it comes down to it, on the following issues I believe I have a position more in line with the American constituency or differently prioritized than my competitor, and I would like to explain to you why I think I am a better choice, not the only choice."

Just that. Just that little, to represent the other people whom you will be competing against in the court of public opinion but who also will always be members of the political class whom you need to support and who need your support.

And if they just did that, we would actually hear about policies, about priorities, and about things that they believe are important about the American populace. You know, all the stuff that we are actually supposed to care about and that they are supposed to actually care about. That we haven't heard anything about for several decades now.

There is no need to emulate the DNC. To go after having the kind of ludicrous primary where it's obvious that nobody on stage respects, appreciates, or even likes anybody else on stage to the point where you wonder how any of them can operate in the same sphere. Kamala Harris calling out Joe Biden for being an unrepentant racist and warmonger – and then turning around in a matter of weeks and giving her patented cackle when asked about how she could accept a VP position with, "it was just pillow talk, baby."

You can't lay this on the feet of the consultants. This is not a "consultants war." Donald Trump decided to make these past statements publicly – and let's not put too fine a point on it, they were ill considered and kind of stupid.

I say that as a Trump supporter. Dumb. Strategically and tactically. I don't care what behind-the-scenes bullshit is been being sprayed around; if your goal is the best result for the American people, and so much winning that you can't stand winning anymore, then you don't do that.

Maybe the Don finally got enough winning. I don't know.

I do know this – we need a quick reversal on the MAGA side of the remnants of the GOP, without question, without hesitation, without any sort of misunderstanding about how serious it is at all. When you have a media compliant to the other political party who are always going to paint everything about you in the worst possible light and everything about them in the best possible light, you cannot afford stupid missteps.

Stupid missteps is how we got to this fart in a bathtub of a midterm. Trying to play the same game as the Democrats without being in the same position. Not hammering day in and day out on election procedures, transparency, reassuring the people on the ground that votes would be counted well and properly, that monitoring would be constant – they blew it. They absolutely blew it.

This is the last thing we need following that.

Which, given the current political climate, means that it's damn near inevitable. Great.

I think you've confused who are speakers and who are "the press."

In this case the press is not the distribution mechanism. It is the people who are using the distribution mechanism, that is the user base.

The original phrasing is at pains to say that it's not making a sound that is protected but the ability of people to communicate. I'm sure that if Marconi had been doing business then they would have added "or of the radio," and so on.

(This leaves aside the issue of the vast number of restrictions on press publications that currently exist because that way lies madness.)

Though the reference in the dissent to newspapers might actually be more damning. If by exercising editorial control Twitter and Facebook become de facto publishers – and not common carriers – they are going to get absolutely demolished on First Amendment grounds, not because of what they choose to publish but because they don't disclose to "their employees" (the user base) anything other than an arbitrary set of guidelines and an implicit contract to which the users never explicitly consented.

This is one of those court cases where on both sides there's the same loser.

The problem for the DNC is that it was obviously a false narrative simply by looking at the live video footage being presented by people on the ground on both sides of the aisle. Normal people, not media people.

If we didn't live in a time where you literally could watch major events happening in real time by people holding up a slab of technology and sending the images live to your face, maybe they could have pulled off the argument. But when facts as reported were immediately contravened by what I could see with my own eyes from multiple places – it took a little bit of the edge they had away, I must say.

Nothing about the pipe bomb discovery made sense from day one.

The timers as described were all wrong. If the timers as described were the ones on the bomb, they couldn't have been left there when they were said to. If we put those bombs there sometime in the hour before 12:40 PM, which would match with the timer, then the Secret Service absolutely should have seen the DNC bomber placing it with their own eyes, forget having it turn out during a second sweep.

None of it held together as a story – even as a narrative – from the first moment it was being reported. Which is why I have trouble imagining a conspiracy that incompetent which has yet to be utterly revealed by its own machinations.

Now, this article isn't that great either. It asserts but does not link to or establish that there was a second camera, like a second shooter on the grassy knoll. I would have to actually see some proof that camera with an unobstructed view actually exists.

My storytelling brain tells me both of these were planted devices, but the mechanism of their planting remains hazy. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they were put in place by Antifa at the bidding of their FBI handlers with local Secret Service, Capitol police, and DC Metro given the soft instruction to ignore anyone in black bloc without necessarily defining why they should be ignoring them, letting them come to their own conclusions. The cutouts drop off the packages the morning of the sixth, Elio conveniently ignores the drop-offs, they wait until a civilian inevitably discovers the pipe bomb placed in a very obvious location, whichever one is discovered, they "find" the second, and a lot of pretext is set.

They never have to bring anyone in and away they go.

With this narrative, things are a lot tighter. Fewer people know what's actually going on but they've received orders that make sense to them given the context of how they know the higher ups want them to behave. Many fewer people to leak, and away you go.

But it definitely requires the FBI as a politicized actor deliberately cultivating seditious activity.

There was a time in my life not that long ago where I would have looked askance at anyone who suggested I would say such a thing in public. Not even all that long ago.

Today – that starts making a lot more sense than what they keep telling us we should believe.

You know, when I violate the terms of court order which formally states the limits of what I can and cannot do – there are repercussions. Bad things happen to me.

But not the FBI. Even if they lie about it in public.

See, if they had simply been picked up by accident as part of something else that was seized as directed by the warrant, they would have set up front, "yes, we ended up with three of Pres. Trump's passports, and as soon as we realize that we made sure to put them in a pile of things to give back to him which weren't covered by the warrant but which we mistakenly picked up as part of the seizure."

Which wouldn't be great but at least would come across like someone who is trying to be honest about complying with the law of the land.

That isn't what they did. They know that isn't what they did. I know that isn't what they did. You know that isn't what they did. Instead, they lied.

Because they can.

It's probably worth pointing out that most illegal immigrants probably don't live in major cities. A lot do, of course. But particularly those who intend to earn money as migrant workers can't, obviously.

Knee-jerk dismissiveness should be our first response. To pretty much everything. At least as consumers of news.

From doctors to their patients? I disbelieve. I'll absolutely believe that doctors push back on self diagnosing patients, and I will absolutely believe that diagnosis is hard. I've spent enough time with med school people to know that.

But I also don't really believe this story happened. Or if the bare facts of it occurred, I don't believe that the context occurs as reported. I just don't. I've seen too many stories, dealt with too many doctors, and too many people to bite.

And when a journalist – and I use the term advisedly – makes a linguistic stretch like this? It makes me doubt their credibility even more.

So I called bullshit on the whole thing. They are the ones making an extraordinary claim and so the burden of providing evidence falls on them, not on me to lick off whatever they want to shoot on my face.

That's where we are.

Once upon a time we were happy to use the word "lying" in regards to such behaviors. And we generally considered them undesirable. In fact, we considered them bad enough that doctors have a very specific term for it:

Malpractice.

They get insured against it, it's so bad.

The article just asserts that it's real and theoretically of common use. It doesn't actually provide any citations or references to anyone credible.

I don't think it's real. I don't think anything about it it's real.

In fact, if you were to ask me to lay money, I would bet that doctors more often exaggerate the impact of medical conditions in their patients then undersell them – because healthy people aren't good for medical money. No one needs to go to the doctor if they're not ill beyond basic medical checkups once a year.

So I basically call bullshit on this whole thing.

Honestly, an easy, and even defensible response would be:

"Of course the unborn have value before they are born. And we can even debate what value at what stage of development they possess. But we also must recognize that the mother has value and – just as importantly – I don't own her. Neither do you, sir. And as such, the dispensation of her body is not up to either of us."

That at least allows for the opposition to have an argument and then addresses it with a counter.

The problem for the Left at this point is that they don't believe it. Neither the value of human life but just as importantly that they don't own someone else's body.

I'll say that again because it's very important: the modern Left does not believe that they do not own other people.

That's why they can't make the argument ever truly based on individual agency. They don't believe it and if they did they wouldn't be able to push for many of the policies that they do which compel others to behave in ways and only in ways that the Left finds acceptable.

When you dig to the bottom of the rhetoric, that's really their problem.

Not just "trained men," but individuals who have already expressed a particular strain of independent thinking which is not in line with the Party.

It's one thing to deliberately cut out part of your Armed Forces when you admit publicly you're having trouble finding qualified members and quite another to actually provide what would effectively be the nucleus of a rebellious force with sufficient ignition.
