I loved the road trips with my mom and grandpa. We'd get in the car and just head off in whatever direction we felt like for a day. I also have fond memories of watching shows with grandpa, like the Flintstones, and laughing our butts off! He was also a very good baker. His fresh sourdough bread was to die for, as was his chocolate chip cookies!

He used to let me use his old Instamatic camera until I got a little 110 camera of my own (can't remember now if he got it for me or if my mom did, but I sure loved that thing!).

Aw, I wish I could make it over to Fire Arts to see your show, but my cat and I just had a $450 week at the vet so Fun Stuff is kind of on hold for now.

They shoot some of Mythbusters at the Alameda navy base, not far from my apartment. I'm always jealous that they get to hang out on the runways...I'm dying to do a photostroll on those runways! :-)

I'm sure you'll slay at Fire Arts tonight! Have fun!

It popped up in my Twitter feed over lunch, only on Twitter CNN's headline was "Despondent dads driven to kill loved ones" Right. Because THEY bear no responsibility at all. SOMEONE ELSE made them do it by making them all sad and stuff. I nearly threw my iPhone across Market Street.

It enrages me that the media loves to treat "despondent dads" or "hopeless dads" or "heartbroken hubbies/boyfriends/whatever" with so much compassion, but they will set land speed records for dehumanizing mothers who physically harm or kill or abandon their children because, for whatever reason, they are unable to care for their child(ren) and have nowhere to turn for help.

I'm glad you're back! I'm even MORE glad that you took some time off and had such a great, relaxing time with Iain!

I'm also just a beensy bit jealous because I haven't had a vacation since, *thinking.....thinking...thi...* 2000??? (I'm not counting my 2 years of unemployment since it was very stressful and I spent a great deal of it trying to find work, then just going back to school).

Oh, I keep forgetting to mention...a few weeks back I had this totally random dream where I was commuting to work in San Francisco (as per usual) but suddenly you and Iain were on the ferry and I was showing you the AT-AT cranes and other stuff along the route. Then we got to SF and we went our separate ways but then, it seemed like 10 minutes later, we're walking through Golden Gate Park and to the GG Bridge (which, actually, would be a hell of a hike and not one my knees and back would appreciate LOL) then the Alameda/Oakland ferry came by (odd, since it doesn't go any farther than Angel Island...and the crew on the Ala/Oak ferry are great but I don't think they'd go THAT far just for me, LOL!) and we just toodled down the maintenance road at the other end of the GG Bridge and got on and went back to Alameda, watching the birds and jack rabbits play on the runways of the decommissioned navy base.

Like I said...totally random dream. Not sure if it's a sign that y'all need to come to CA or that I need to not drink that glass of wine after taking an allergy pill! :-D

So I just came home from my chiropractor visit and errand running to find that my cat Simon has somehow once again managed to turn on iTunes (it was hidden when I left!). And this time he put it on *shuffle* That cat is way too clever for my own good! :-0

I have had the worst time trying to grow catnip. It never seems to get past the early seedling stage before it just fizzles out (I can't even blame the cats for getting into it, since I keep a wire cover over the pot.)

This weekend, when I have some time for coherent thought, I will be writing President Obama and urging him to shitcan DADT and to do everything in his power to make sure Lt. Choi and others who have been dismissed from service for being gay are reinstated.

Very good post, Liss. Watching his interview with Rachel Maddow last night I was equal parts angry and heartsick, all the while thinking that Lt. Choi is my hero.

Simon and Billie *hate* the Big LOUD Kitteh-Eating Machine! I really want to get a Roomba, too (it would be SO helpful dealing with the daily litter scattering).

Today at Chez Vicster we are celebrating Cinco de Meowo (a.k.a. Simon's 8th birthday). I'm hoping that a little bite of his favorite Trader Joe's Greek Honey Yogurt will take away some of his bitter disappointment at not having a birthday cake.

The first time I watched "The Wizard of Oz" I was about 3 or 4 years old and I cried when the Wicked Witch of the West was killed.

And if I may remind you, this is the same douchenozzle who had the temerity to lecture Liss on ethics. While cheating on his cancer-stricken wife. And while allegedly funnelling campaign funds to his mistress.

At the time I didn't even know about him cheating on Elizabeth or funneling campaign funds to his mistress but I was deeply disappointed in him for throwing Liss and Amanda under the bus. I so wanted to support him because of his support of a progressive platform even though his treatment of Liss was a huge red flag.

It is profoundly disappointing to realize that he is, it seems, yet another privileged rich dude who believes the rules don't apply to him.

@Quercki The ferry is the only way I can really handle this commute to San Francisco. There are days when my alarm goes off and I feel like I just can't drag myself into the office...but the promise of being on the ferry helps me drag my butt out of bed and off to work. I say it frequently: I have The Best Commute In The World.

It's been stoopid weather this week in the Bay Area, too. We went from windy and chilly in the 40's (up to the 50's or low 60's in the afternoon), suddenly to the 90's and, just as suddenly, we're back into the 50's with some arctic cold wind. I was NOT a happy camper waiting for the ferry in Alameda this morning.

I'd like to slap the hand of whatever force is controlling the thermostat in the Bay Area this week!

I have not had a proper vacation in YEARS. I was planning to spend my birthday weekend at the Central California coast (Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo with a stop at Hearst Castle and the surrounding hills which are so gorgeous as we click over to Spring). But trying to figure out why Miss Billie is so skinny took priority (we still don't know why she's skinny...$400 worth of blood tests and x-rays later all we really saw was that she was a constipated kitty) and that pretty much blew the vacation budget.

So I decided I'd make the most of my days off and have a Bay Area Staycation. I packed 4 cameras and went to places here in the Bay Area that I have either never gone to (such as walking across the Golden Gate Bridge) or haven't been to in a long time (I count Golden Gate Park there, even though I was there only 6 months ago...I really needed to visit the Japanese Tea Garden again since it's just about my favorite spot in San Francisco).

I still hope to get in a road trip up to Vancouver, BC (she's been beckoning my return for quite a while now). Of course, that requires kitties remaining healthy and no nasty financial surprises over the next few months...
