Fred, thanks for linking to this post on my blog. While I watched a dozen Scorpions YouTube videos yesterday, I didn't see the one you link to above, so that was a treat as well!

@Satchit: thanks. Yes, I listened/watched both of those, and loved them. I'm impressed with their range. Heavy Metal on one end, and gorgeous acoustic pieces as well.

Thank you very much for letting me know. I was seriously considering acupuncture (for the first time ever) before I saw the orthopedist. Since then, I have been feeling much better (nowhere near normal), so I'm just taking a bit of a wait and see attitude. It's good to know that if I take a turn for the worse, or don't continue to improve, that there is an alternative to physical therapy out there.

Well, I was right when I said I'd have to pay close attention to your blog. Just discovered Streampad through this post. I have some generic thoughts about it that I will incorporate into my upcoming Pandora, Last.fm (and now Streampad) post.

But, what I'm really thanking you for is that on Streampad, I just found 10 Grateful Dead concerts, spanning from 1965-1994. Wow. Fabulous trip down memory lane!

You didn't mention why you couldn't share the connection with your airport express, so, this might be useless information. Given the specific link to LifeHacker, which shows how to share your wired network, I may be off base here. That said, I bet it will at least be useful to one of your readers. ;-)

Here's a device I just purchased from Amazon.com for $38 on the recommendation of a friend. Not only is it a tiny travel WiFi router, but it can bridge WiFi networks. So, if you're in a hotel that only offers WiFi, you can have the router connect to that (can't be WEP or WPA protected!) and then have all the machines in the room connect to the WiFi network that the linksys bridges to the hotel's network. Very cool device.

Interesting. I ran into that once in Atlantic City, where the service somehow could distinguish between a real PC vs a router. The authentication wasn't associated to the MAC address (which is the most typical thing), but rather somehow placed a cookie (or some other token) directly on the machine that authenticated through the router, and only that machine could access the connection. Anyway, your solution was quite effective. :-)

Very good question! Burn notice is a USA summer series, so there aren't many episodes.(8-10 in total so far). So, you can catch up in a weekend). If they do another season this summer (it was renewed, but you never know how long the writers strike will last), then USA always shows a marathon of the previous season to warm you up, so you can DVR the entire season in one day!

Lost is about to start season 4 (again, subject to writers strike stuff). So, that's a lot of episodes (I believe they have made 70 so far). So, it's a much bigger commitment.

Ultimately, it boils down to this: Lost is a serial program with tons of character development through back stories. It has lots of appeal for that reason alone, though the main story and mystery are quite interesting.

Burn notice is a mixture. In every single episode, two things are going on:

1) Some new adventure, which has nothing to do with any previous adventure, so it's not serialized in that sense.

2) The hero is searching for the reason he was burned, and the person who burned him. This part is indeed serialized, which makes watching the episodes out of order not as appealing as with other purely unserialized shows.

Given the general lack of time that we all have, I'd recommend Burn Notice. :-)

Fred, I agree with most of your comments regarding the music business, thanks for sharing those thoughts (as always). Thanks also for sharing the link to Seth's article. Most of his points are good (though not all, as some of your readers have already pointed out).

I just stumbled onto an online label that really does get it right (IMHO). I just put up a long post about them (magnatune.com), in case you or any of your readers aren't familiar with them, or what makes them very special.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing the above, it's amazing how closely it mirrors my exact experience. My wife and I both love Kathy's music (Coal and non-Coal), but I am definitely going to the Barns to catch Bill live, more than seeing a repeat of the Coal show.

We'll be in the balcony this time (I guess I found out about the show a little late to get much better seats), so if I send a flare up, it might burn down the barn. ;-)

I definitely hope Eamonn will be there, he's incredible as well!

I'm not on myspace myself, so I can't "friend" anyone, but I checked out your page, and I like it.
