I'm wondering why Prologue/WordPress didn't make it to be #3? There are alternatives out there. Simply use them. I'm micro-blogging at http://Wir-sprechen-Online.com, a WordPress.com-Prologue-blog that sends my "tweets" to Twitter, other (Laconica based) micro-blogging services, and even Facebook. Those centralized services remain as a feedback-channel. At least for a transition period...

Re: Where is Twitter's WordPress? Anyone who runs wordpress can use it. For a great example, see Talk Islam: http://talkislam.info. Note that if you run Prologue on Wordpress MU, you can also use the Buddypress plugins and thereby get direct messaging and profile functionality too. its basically feature complete, aside from @replies (but that could be a simple plugin).

Re: Archiving Twitter in OPML (Scripting News)

This has a lot of promise as a general backup tool for people. There's a crying need for it since none of the other solutions to back up your tweets (limited to three thousand) really are ideal. Would it be possible to run this as a service that people could use to download the archives for themselves and whoever else they want to follow? I know I'd pay $5 upfront for access to the service, too.

Also - if at all possible, the first level of @replies should also be backed up. Can that be done? otherwise you risk losing the conversations that are half the reason to be on twitter in the first place.

Re: The White House website (Scripting News)

I have to disagree with you - I think the site does serve as the two-way briefing book you describe, or at least it will if they live up to what they promise in the first post.

Re: Even During a Recession, Small Businesses Still Should Consider Macbooks

Again, I don't know of any companies who use a free PDF creator over Adboe.
Maybe if they are in the non-profit space. But Acrobat is justified as "cost
of doing business". Plus, it's the geekier who know about those options and
the decision makers are not usually the geeky among us.

Re: Even During a Recession, Small Businesses Still Should Consider Macbooks

many compaies use PDF. In fact, all of them. But few need to buy Adobe to do it. At any rate, the embedded PDF creation functionality in Mac OS X is not equivalent to the total package of functionality you get with Adobe's flagship software, either, so this is another apples-oranges (heh) comparison, in addition to the point I make about Office below.

Re: Even During a Recession, Small Businesses Still Should Consider Macbooks

doPDF is a freeware application for PDF creation. So that shaves $449 off the estimate right there. And you're comparing iLife to Office Pro? a fair comparison would be Office for Mac instead.

Re: Edwards scandal idicts MSM and political bloggers (Scripting News)

Further thoughts here. I was thinking along much the same lines, because it seems that the consequence of web 2.0 was a fragmentation of content and conversations.
