Since I live in a New York City sized apartment, I sleep on a loft bed... I used to keep my phone beside me while sleeping, but I had a few too many close calls. You can only drop an iPhone seven feet onto a hardwood floor so many times before you start pushing your luck :)

I thought about busting out sed, really I did. I'm just quite a bit slower with sed. And the gains would be negligible, since the vast majority of the execution time is in the wget chunk, not the parsing. So my time won, since it took me < 10 seconds to write the grep chain :)

You have a valid point. On the other hand, Amazon has at least *twice as many* non-public-domain titles available. And it syncs with the Kindle app on my phone, so I can pick up either device and start reading where I left off.

I have two URLs. The one for my site is http://justinhileman.disqus.com/ but the one for my profile is http://disqus.com/people/bobthecow/ ... That's "SITENAME.disqus.com" not username. Did you set up your site URL?

I've got pagination enabled for Disqus, but bumped it up to a really high number... I'm not a fan of useless pagination, but if a post has several hundred comments i think pagination is a reasonable thing to do.

You can integrate Disqus with just about anything including, apparently, Joomla. So it looks like you're in luck.

Further thoughts:

If I control my own comments I have more control over the valid content. I can do things like syntax hilighting and html element filters... I can (and currently do) parse Markdown syntax, because it's usually a whole lot quicker than writing out HTML.

Maybe I should keep using the current comment system for technical blog posts, which would most benefit from comments with syntax hilighting and advanced htmlability, and use Disqus comments for everything else?

Hmmm... It doesn't seem to fully link my Twitter and Disqus accounts. Notice how the comments up at the top are hilighted, and this one isn't? It doesn't realize that @bobthecow is the owner of this blog.

You can style almost everything from Disqus using CSS. You don't have any control over the html at all, however. So I guess the answer is that it depends on your css-fu :)

Most systems do if you have a username. Most Drupal blogs (mine included) use guest posting because nobody wants to set up a user account just to post a comment.
