I'd mark off the crucial ones you have and knock those out first when you get spare moments.

At least for me there's been no way to automate updating my email address everywhere, so it's just a bit of a slog. Let me know if you think of any clever tricks!

Re: Bryan Landers | Google Script for Migrating Otherinbox Defender Email Addresses in Gmail

Thanks for reading! I think you have it right about needing to login to Google Docs with the account you need to get OIB emails from. Can you open a new incognito window in Chrome (or use a different browser where you're not logged into your main Gmail address), log into the desired Google Apps or Gmail account you want to get a list of emails out of and then open Google Drive from that window? Any Google Apps or Gmail email should allow each user to login, so I think that could work for you.

Re: Three weeks ago there was an excellent interview... | Wade Foster

Aren't there more blue collar workers that do a job they don't like to provide security for their family? I don't doubt there are some who do like their job, employer and company's mission (your TV show example proves that), but is that an atypical blue collar employee? This doesn't effect anything about your points, since an exceptional worker could fit your requirements, I'm just curious about your take on it.

Re: Sock Bankruptcy

Speaking of entrepreneurship and socks (?), I noticed two people recently who were rocking some styling socks during interviews: Seth Godin had a cool pair of bright, multi-colored, medium-sized striped ones; and Chris Dixon had a wonderful solid, bright green pair. Thanks so much for this wonderful tour of Card Karma. I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed it and I hope your readers give it a try, too.

I absolutely plan to keep things as simple as possible and the current features offered for free will always be free.

I made the site because it was something I wished existed for years while using other ecard sites where I was forced to pick from a bunch of creepy Flash animations that didn’t capture the sentiment of my message! As you said, there are millions of amazing Flickr images and Youtube videos out there, so why not make use of those in our ecards, right?

Also, I wanted people to be able to try out the service without having to sign up for an account. So, on Card Karma, creating an account is optional if you’d like to keep all the ecards you’ve made handy for future use or to share on your profile.

The holiday season is here, so come back anytime to make and share creative ecards. Happy Holidays to MakeUseOf!

:)

Bryan
Creator of Card Karma

Re: http://estherbester.tumblr.com/post/8342400478

hmm, so what's the width of this column? the new card dimensions are designed to fit in the standard 500px wide tumblr column...but this must be smaller? this is why i really need to have images created for embedding the photo ecards...erfff :P

also, you caught a bug! i forgot to update the iframe embed code dimensions. i've updated it on the site...it's supposed to be: height="340" width="500" (sorry!)

Re: bryan landers - musician, hacker, under-designer, creator of card karma

Thanks! Now that we've got that covered, how about doing one on how to make those insanely delicious Danish pancakes they have at Paula's in Solvang, CA? Thin, not too heavy...some magic shit in there like cardamom or something. If you have to take a field trip to accept this challenge, it will be worth it. Oh, and if the waitress says, "yes, we have a pancake mix," remember, it's NOT the same as the pancakes they serve there. Fool me can't get fooled again. For integrating new members into a culture (I'm thinking of Joss Whedon show fans as well as Ethan's new employer, HP) you have schema (the Kantian version, I think it is), which is the knowledge that the newcomer is assumed to share with others in the culture, and the knowledge base shared by the existing members. Regarding schema, that's more about hiring and assessing cultural fit and aligned needs, and I'm sure there are tools and advice for that (I don't have much experience there). But, the knowledge base part is where you can find a lot of the tools you were expressing interest in discussing.

If the culture is exclusive, inner-culture knowledge will be actively kept hidden from the new member (or it can become part of an initiation test to seek and discover the inside jokes, ideas, and concepts within the culture). If it's inclusive, there are some great tools that can be used to aid in catching up with the shared history and experience of the culture to date. Wikis, previous blog and microblog posts, and news coverage are all places where info can be gleaned; developers are familiar with documentation as a means of communicating not only the specific items that are central to interaction, but also guidelines on etiquette and best practices to ensure a cohesive end-result, both socially and in terms of products (as opposed to a bunch of chaos...or something like YouTube comments). Some things don't document very well, like your example of stereotypes, and those seem to be almost exclusively communicated verbally and in-person (oh, our great oral traditions!), although I suppose some of that leaks into tweets and such.

I would look to fan bases for examples of organically scaled culture (I got to witness a couple of Grateful Dead shows years back, and, man, those folks know how to scale a culture!)
