I do the exact same thing, and advise others to do this as well. Happy birthday, whenever it is (was)!

Re: When Twitter Goes Down

Ack! When is it coming back up again?

Um, oh yeah, thanks for sharing, Chris. ;-)

Re: Think before you face your manga

Okay, okay, I have switched mine back. It was just a bit of fun and--for most people--only temporary. It was an interesting experiment really and did reveal to us the reasons for having the photos or other avatars and being consistent.

This is precisely why I begged LinkedIn for a long time to allow us to post our photos, because you meet someone at a conference or an important new business contact, and need both the face and the name to help remember them.

I quite like what Chris Brogan does--he often takes a new photo that day and posts it, so we can see how he is looking that particular day. It still looks like him and he is recognizable. I also reserve the right to periodically change my avatar for specific purposes--such as when I recently dramaticaly changed my hair and no longer looked like my photo, or when I did the "Blue Elvis" series of tweets on Twitter over a year ago.

It is interesting to see how important this has become.

Cheers,
Connie

P.S. I have this (different) avatar in the comments because Discus won't let me use my other avatar claiming it is too big a file. I have to figure out how to resize my avatar so I can change it! I'll be honest--it bugs me that I am still using the Twitter fail robot here. :-P

Re: Weekend of music and hippies

I'm glad to hear the Hillside Festival is alive and well! I volunteered there when I was a student at the University of Guelph a million years ago. I will have to keep it in mind for next year. Sounds like you had a great time. It is definitely a special event.

Cheers,
Connie

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Seesmic video reply from Connie Crosby.

Re: Help! I only just discovered it this morning when trying to get back on. And I had no warning. I have no idea how I was breaking the terms of service either, but haven't been told that was the reason. I had over 1500 followers and was following almost as many, just over 1400. That was from a year and a half of twitter use, over 9,000 tweets.

I accidentally sent a tweet via email which seems to have reinstated the account under my name, but have lost everything.

Thanks for posting on this...I was offline for 18 hours and had no idea this had happened until this morning.

Re: Oh Canada — not too bad, eh?

A couple of great lists--thanks for this. We missed you in person. I was there and have been chiming in on the various discussions. I agree with you, Mathew--folks seem to be digging in their heals when really I don't think they are that diametrically opposed if we look at it closely.

I do find it fascinating. Jill Golick no doubt set out to provoke a reaction, at least on some level. What she didn't count on was, in return, being provoked herself.

It is fascinating how it is playing out, how we are still figuring out how to exist with each other in the electronic spaces.

Re: Dembot - Twitter Down Art Collection

@andrewbaron LOL!
