I know we're getting applications from the best hackers at elite schools. And on the other end, I can tell from some of the applications we get that we're not only getting the top fraction from the ones lower down the list.

Re: News from the Front

It varies enormously, not just by university and department, but by advisor. If the kid was already admitted to both, sure, go to Harvard. The real test is if the kid had a choice in HS of doing a) something that would get them into a better college, or b) learn more, which would you advise? E.g. SAT tutoring, or learn how to draw? I'd always advise b.

Re: An Alternative Theory of Unions

I never say that labor unions were a creation of the early 20th century, just that that was their peak.

Re: Become A Blogging Pundit In 5 Easy Steps

And I would add a number 6 - be a cranky old fart all the time about everything :)

Re: It's Blogroll Cleaning Time

I agree that most blogrolls are a waste of time and for the longest time I never had one. However until there is a way for me to import my existing comment base it kind of defeats the purpose as from what I could see it is like starting of fresh with all posts having 0 comments. This unfortunately isn't going to work for me but I would suggest the system to anyone just starting out with a fresh blog.

Re: Disqus snubs Blog World Expo, rattles Blogosphere

Even without your tongue firmly planted in cheek :) I for am glad you decided to to stick around home and get work done.

Now about that swag that you have left over from not going :) LOL

Re: Does Google hate PayPerPost?

I gotta admit that even though I don't like the PPP method of income generation I'm not so sure that Google's moves in this area shouldn't be examined very very closely. The other factor was the switch by Apple to using the Intel processor.

It doesn't hurt either that Apple does make some sweet looking hardware and people are increasingly looking at computers as more than just a utilitarian box sitting on their desk in the corner.

Re: A question/clarification on the moderation settings

It seems I made a bit of a goof up about my statement concerning the Import feature so I was wondering what the current timetable is for the import feature?

Also IIRC mention was made about being able to implement Disqus but still keep what existing comments there in place rather than them disappearing when you enable the plugin ... where would I find this setting?

Is there a roadmap anywhere of what the current timetable is for feature additions and some of what we can expect down the road?
