Sure. This is how Disqus handles spam: we filter contents ourselves then pass them through a few different anti-spam providers. This requires a little more finesse than what you wrote above. Otherwise, I agree, it's a seemingly minor addition.

The issue is around improving our handling of comment states in our system for future development. This is being done right now, as well as working in an improved interface that makes it clear for most people.

I can go into more detail, but I hope this provides some insight.

Nice writeup, John. I think at this point, many of the comment services are starting to provide very similar functionality. Disqus has been pretty good about leading the thinking, and it's natural for other services to begin delivering on what their users liked about Disqus.

So that's why in the coming weeks, we're going to make it much easier for people to decide the better service for them. The new features in the coming release should be compelling enough and I really hope you'll find them useful as well.

Also, Backtype is a different service altogether. We know the Backtype guys well and think they provide something very complimentary to what we do.

Hey Chris. We're aware of the influx of human spammers and I agree that the tools do need to be better.

We recently released a few changes to handle spam more appropriately. Is that helping you at all?

After you post a reply, we will add a an anchor to your browser's location bar, so it jumps to the comment you've just left. For example, at the end of the URL it might say #comment-12345.

If you refresh your browser, it will still do that same jump. You can remove that anchor from the URL, and it will refresh the page as you would normally expect.

It may be an issue of how your WordPress installation is structured.
