I think one of the clearest places that this is playing out is in text as an interface. The best interface is no interface. With apps like Front + Twillio you can spool up an entire text base business in a couple of hours. With text it is possible to create a deeply trusted relationship and go deep in conversation with customers in a shorter period of time than ever before. Much easier than setting up a website, and a much more effective feedback loop. Which explains why text has become the defacto way of delivering many different services in Asia over the last couple of years, with the trend just landing on shore in the US this year.

Additionally, we're sorry about this. We hope that the proactive steps we've been taking over the last couple of weeks on our Android client show we care deeply. We're hoping to have iOS 2.0.6 into the App Store process by the end of the week.

We actually will delete anything you would like deleted from our servers. We strongly believe that you should control your information. Feel free to email service@path.com and they'll take care of it for you.

1. This is a good alternative solution which we'll look into. Thanks for the idea.

2. This is currently the industry best practice and the App Store guidelines do not specifically discuss contact information. However, as mentioned, we believe users need further transparency on how this works, so we've been proactively addressing this.

3. As I mentioned in the previous answer, we are rolling out this functionality for 2.0.6. In the meantime, if you would like your data deleted from our servers please contact our service team at service@path.com. We take this same policy for any of your data, if you'd like your account deleted, including all data, we're happy to do this as well. We fundamentally believe that you as a user should always have control over your information and data and you can always email our service team and we will remove anything you'd like from our servers.

Arun, thanks for pointing this out. We actually think this is an important conversation and take this very seriously. We upload the address book to our servers in order to help the user find and connect to their friends and family on Path quickly and effeciently as well as to notify them when friends and family join Path. Nothing more.

We believe that this type of friend finding & matching is important to the industry and that it is important that users clearly understand it, so we proactively rolled out an opt-in for this on our Android client a few weeks ago and are rolling out the opt-in for this in 2.0.6 of our iOS Client, pending App Store approval.

Great post guys. The thing that Mark and I were reacting to was not the publishing of the story to my Wall, but to putting a string of text into the text field automatically. This is effectively the same thing as putting words into my mouth.

The stories which you display as examples do not do this. They post a piece of content, but do not use the user's "voice".

As a builder of Internet things, my opinion is that the user should always be in control of their "voice".

I don't think you need to turn off this feature, you just need to move the content to it's correct place in the Facebook interface. If you'd like to give the user the option to say something about Chill when posting, just add a simple form field which allows them to type in a little note before posting it.

Other than that, I think Live is a major new trend on the Web. What you guys are doing is really cool. Norgard I had no idea you were behind this. Let me know how I can help.
