Future of Local News

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Paid subscriptions for online news content have typically failed. The exception is in financial news, because those subscribers have an incentive not to share that content freely. PT could try it, but I suspect they'd still lose money on the project.

I think there's a certain class of news that will be served well by UGC, but since that's precisely the kind of news that an abundance of people are willing to write up for free, I'm extremely skeptical of any play to make money off of it. Aggregation can be handy, but once you throw enough ads up to make money, people will take their UGC elsewhere, and we'll just keep coming back to blogs and RSS feeds. The only money is going to be in news that no one wants to/is able to work on for free.

Re: David Berube » Future of Local News

Atleast let me buy an online subscription. We can agree with at least doing that, right?

I guess the bigger question is whether or not there is a play for local/hyper-local UGC that has editors. I'm sure someone is doing this to some extent, but execution is everything with this.

Re: Android and New Features!

Yes.

Re: Who will prosecute Bush? The United States has NEVER signed off on the __INTERNATIONAL__ court you pinhead. So, for the record, there is NO court that supersedes any US court.

Perhaps you shold move to Europe where they don't value their sovereignty as much. You should at least know what you're talking about before you take a condescending approach to someone.

Re: Who will prosecute Bush? Maybe you werent aware of the laws in our very own US constitution which state that any treaty upon which we are a signatory becomes binding law in the US. That means that the Geneva Convention cannot be deemed "quaint" by anyone and that violation of it is a violation of criminal statutes. Now, if we can't get a prosecution for crimes against humanity (and against our own constitution) in this country, then it remains for an international court. That's
__INTERNATIONAL___ court for those of you who are slow to get the point. Not foreign court, but INTERNATIONAL COURT, the name of which implies that its authority supersedes all nations.

Re: David Berube’s Blog » Polaroid Televisions Suck.

Definitely do that! Print it out, let them know where they can find this post.

Tell them to look at all the comments of people who are completely miserable because they made a shitty product and do not back it up.

In 2009, not being transparent will kill your brand. Consumers today are obnoxiously educated and they can no longer create a terrible product that will last up until the warranty and then not work. People will go on the Internet and make decisions based on their behavior, much like many have done by Googling Polaroid and finding this page.

Go get'em.

Re: Who will prosecute Bush? (Scripting News)

Can anyone honestly, for a second, think that any former US President or member of their administration will be allowed to be extradited to Europe to stand trial for war-crimes or anything like that? Or better yet, not laugh at their indictment?

The US won't allow it's soldiers and commanders to be held accountable by a foreign body for crimes committed during war, we certainly won't allow a former President to be.

And that is the absolute right decision. We are a sovereign country with our own laws. If they break the law in America they should be held accountable. But to allow a foreign body of any sort to bring any American citizen to trial in a non-US courtroom for a crime not committed on foreign soil is ludicrous.

Short answer: Nobody will be held accountable outside the court of public opinion. And I'm not entirely sure anyone committed any crimes to begin with.

Re: Comment Widget

Delete

dtb

---
David Berube
Founder & Chief Architect, MoFuse
(401) 648-7002

Re: Comment Widget

Delete

dtb

---
David Berube
Founder & Chief Architect, MoFuse
(401) 648-7002

Re: David Berube’s Blog » Paying for More Twitter Followers?

delete

dtb

--
David T.
