The really good ones usually have a network where they can bring in expertise in other areas. They also tend to be picky with who to recommend as they are putting their own reputation and future contracts on the line.

Re: The Importance of "Occasional User" Requirements

Alan Cooper's book, The Inmates are Running the Asylum is a very good read, and the "personas" technique is something that can be used quite successfully when designing any UI, especially for infrequent users.

I like the "personas" technique even though I have not seen it used that much. Which is a shame as it can be quiet effective.

Re: Why Are We So Afraid Of Selling?

For me, it is mostly "don't brag, be humble, who do you think you are?" flashbacks from school. Putting yourself forward confidently was frowned upon by teachers, and later by classmates.

Lot of people see confidence as arrogance - "why do you think you are so special? You are not (insert relevant famous person's name)"

It is hard to overcome this background, and I always feel awkward when I try to sell myself, having this nagging feeling that I am promising more than I'm worth, presenting myself in a false way.

I am now working with a coach and I told her that one of my big problems is that I know that I am good, I just have difficulties believing it.
If that even makes sense.

Re: 5 Siri alternatives for Android

I hope Siri is way better at speech recognition than either of the above. Remove physical presence of other people, remove the possibility of learning and improving people skills by letting kids to learn from home.

I am sorry, but going to the campus, actually meeting the other students - especially those we don't like -, having to deal with them - especially with those we don't like -, having a SOCIAL life IS one of the most important parts of the education.

I do agree, math can be learned online. People can't.
So if we move the education online we will lose a lot.
We may will have cheaper - but definitely not zero cost - education, but it won't worth that much.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but not as the main way for educate people. It can be great for secondary degrees and such. But I would like to see people actually learn the most important lessons, not only the technically neccessary ones.

Re: Quid Pro No

I don't expect reciprocate behaviour. That is a deciding factor a lot of times, either pro or con. And surprisingly it can give an interesting insight into some of your professional qualities - not the hard skills, but the soft skills. How you manage conflicts, are you persistent, are you dependable, do you push responsibility away or welcome it, etc.

Of course it will not replace your resume unless it is profession related blog.

Cheers,
Roland

Re: http://www.zoliblog.com/2009/03/17/are-you-left-brained-or-right-she-can-tell/?nucrss=1

I go with Tony Buzan on this: the myth that there are right-brained and left-brained people is debunked by Dali, Picasso, Einsteins, da Vinci and basically any person who created anything creative.

:))

Re: Trace Modeler Review

You are welcome, checking the new video.

Re: The Righteous Web

What you wrote Chris about the social webs simply providing tools should not even be a question.
