Since a lot of these are already implemented by Centro, this could fairly easily introduced.
Since most bus riders do so frequently, but not necessarily regularly, I believe that this with some for of pre-payment system could help speed up boarding and ticket purchasing across all transport methods.

Re: Question CUL1

Despite BT's claim that they blanket central Birmingham with Wifi, I've found it to be sketchy at best. I'd like to see better wifi, perhaps even free if someone will step in and subsidize it, across the Birmingham area, from 5days to the far end of Corporation Street.

I would also like to see more family friendly open spaces. Brindley Place is a nice place to take the kids and go for a stroll on a sunny day, but its rather far from the centre. A more modernized pedestrian area, with more seating would be welcome.

Re: 4.10.4

There is already the ability to create 3D models of buildings and areas, and position them into their specific location with Google Earth and Sketchup products. Perhaps use of this could be encouraged and promoted.

Re: A River of TWiT

I think this is a very interesting idea Leo. My only concerns are as follows.
1. There is possibility for linkbait from any source through the XMPP system. While this may not be controllable, it would be useful to have the ability to perhaps block based on particular users if possible. This is probably going to be the biggest issue when using an IM client.
2. Perhaps a community question, but could a desktop app be created to view this stream, rather than through an IM client? Would be nice to avoid the constant "Ding" from Adium for each and every message that gets posted. Within that, if you could view popular hashtags, etc that would further help to narrow the field of view for users.

An onscreen ticker for TWiT live would be nice, but you might need some keyword filtering to cut out possible bad language.

I'm sure that your healthy community will be happy to help out, as I know you already have a good team of mods for the IRC chat room.

Re: HOWTO: Install WiFi Certificates on your iPhone

In case you missed the update, yeah it works perfectly. happily jumps between the AP's around the office. T3, Front, Nuts, Zoo, FHM, basically all mainstream mags that have any kind of gadget feature include a scantily clad woman accompanying it for no reason. This country is full of frigtards.

Re: Why Buy a Mac?

For me, I was slowly drawn in by the iPod. I got a 3Gen 20GB ipod in 2002, and was running that with XP for a while, and I slowly started looking at the Mac's. After saving for about 6 months i indulged in my first Powerbook G4.
4 years later, I am now on a Macbook Pro and I still love the Mac OS. I can't ever imagine going back to Windows as a full time OS.
I love the fact that while it may sometimes appear simple (is that even a bad thing?) it actually has so much power behind it, and I can fire up the terminal and start running Perl apps, Ruby scripts, run any unix command I want. I can easily run a webserver, test my website locally, and so much more. Of course I didn't discover half this till I started reading and learning more about the OS. But I love it, and I even converted my girlfriend to a Macbook and now she's hooked too

Re: Ask iBAM: Grouping Photos in iPhoto

Simply, from the File menu, select New Folder. My girlfriend blogs about feminism and unsurprisingly has many other female friends who blog regularly, none of which is of a geeky nature. I think its probably more a issue with people knowing about it. People who are less "geeky" probably aren't looking around for blogger meetups, more likely looking for groups related to their blog's topic for instance. Thats not to say they wouldn't want to come.
Perhaps someone could put together a poster for the next one for display at uni's, coffee shops, notice boards, etc?And a parent/blogger meetup sounds fun! if only I didn't have to work...and had a child....

Re: Birmingham Bloggers Meetup 3 - Coworking and a Social Media Cafe

Sounds like a very eventful meetup. Wish I had been able to come along.
I certainly like the idea of coworking spaces, and the social media cafe, both sound like what I was thinking about on my recent blog post. I'd love to have a place to go and chill out, and work on my website, just read email, or just meet friends.
I've wondered about a Barcamp thing too. I missed Podcamp UK last year due to moving house and only realised it was on the day before. I like what Dave Slusher is doing over in Carolina with CreateSouth and think that something like this could really grow into a great even, not just for Brum but the West Midlands.
I'll have to try harded to come along to the next one.
P.S. Did I see someone in that slideshow in a Wordpress hoody?

Re: Why doesn’t Birmingham have wifi like Austin?

Completely right. Why do we have naff BT OpenZone everywhere. I get free wifi from TheCloud through O2 but why can't we get it everywhere? I would think that such a big city would offer it (Norwich has free wifi now though I haven't tried it)
I've also got a Fon spot up and running in Bearwood. It seems like a good way to get wifi more available to the masses.

Re: Birmingham Bloggers Meetup Podcast and Photos

Hi Stef
Just found this post as I was looking to see if there were any good geeky bloging/twittering/anything else meetups in Birmingham.
I'd be interested to come along to the next one. But will details be posted anywhere else? I'm no fan of Facebook to be honest. I like my life to be accessable by all (thanks to Flickr, my blog and Twitter)

@Simon Howes - I have some server hosting if you want somewhere to host the website. Would be glad to offer that up. Just leave me a comment somewhere on my blog!

Re: Caption Fun #1

"And now, my 'new goldfish' impression."

"So I couldn't find a hat, but then I went to put the trash out..."

"I'd like to play a song called 'bubble boy'"

"I'll show you who's full of hot air!"

Re: Ask iBAM: Parallels vs Boot Camp

I'd put in a vote for VM Ware. I've used it for a few months and couldn't be happier. The Unity mode is nice in Windows, and the support for the varous *nix's is great.
The only reason I'd suggest using Boot Camp would be if you had a hardware intensive app (video editing, etc) and then its probably better to be running it fully natively.

Re: Happy Trails - ITT into the Sunset of new Paths

Shame to see you guys go.
