It seems as soon as I start writing, something comes up. Let's see if I can make a go of it tonight.

For starters, thanks for sharing the link. I enjoyed reading your post because it reminded me of my own thoughts on the topic. Scary! :)

Thanks for reading and sharing!

Re: Follow This Link: Creative Marketing Via Social Media

Thank you, sir. I can tell you that it isn't always easy, but I enjoy it. I remember when I first started writing back in June of this year. For the most part, it was just me writing for me. With each new blog post, I find that it becomes less about me and more about what I can do to help others.

While there are benefits, knowing that others are enjoying and getting something out of it actually feels better.

I appreciate the feedback!

Re: Why Does Subway Not Understand Ripe Tomatoes?

Doug, you should check out this book on the history of In-n-Out. They talk about this directly. Back when they were starting up, there was a split between the founders. One wanted to go fast and cheaper and the other wanted to stick at their prices and with the better quality.

The guy who stuck with the better quality and the existing prices kept the chain and look where they are. It's sad when companies making that move incorrectly.

Re: What Does Twitter Lists Reveal About You?

AJ_Kohn,

I really appreciate you exploring this topic with me. Believe it or not, I am learning a lot from this exchange.

You wrote, "I'm still struggling to figure out what the metric means. Frequency of appearance on a topical list (sans gaming) gives you something. But I'm not sure exactly what. List inclusion provides no ability to assign weight. Everyone on that list has an equal weight. So, there's no real measure for whether you had subject matter expertise there or were a dilettante."

In the example provided above, I agree with you. How can we measure someones influence based upon one or two lists? Everyone on that list is equal. Yes?

What happens when that very same someone is on a million related lists? Would it be fair to say that this person, brand, or company has reach?

If we look at those individuals and companies that have earned a million or more followers, what can we walk away with? Well, we know Oprah didn't interact much on Twitter before she broke the 1 million mark. As of today, she has posted 74 times and has over 2 million followers. In addition, she is already on 6,000 lists.

Pete Cashmore (Mashable) is another example of influence. As we recently learned, his news organization earned enough followers that CNN now links its tech news to Mashable.com. Did I mention he is on over 9,000 lists?

These are just a few examples that may reveal there is some truth to the numbers. Maybe it is not enough to look at lists alone, but what if we look at followers and lists (both names and count)? What if we add retweet numbers? I am convinced that with enough data, there is a story to tell.

Say, if you or I can convince a million people to follow us on Twitter, I'd say there is some influence there. No, the number alone may not measure authority, but if we review (count) the number of lists that say I am an expert of something, wouldn't that suffice?

Just something to think about.

Re: Introducing the FB Share Button Wordpress Plugin for Facebook Share

I actually answered my own question. The correct way to write in Blogger is, "expr:share_url='data:post.url'"

So, for the benefit of your readers, the whole thing looks like this:

a expr:share_url="data:post.url" name="fb_share" type="box_count" rel="nofollow"

Be sure to add the less than and greater than symbols.

Re: Introducing the FB Share Button Wordpress Plugin for Facebook Share

In Blogger, I would like to have it show the stats for each post, not count shares for the whole site. When I set up Tweetmeme, I used the following, "<data:post.url/>." However, when I try to use that in the place of share_url, I get "<data:post.url/>" and not the actual URL. What am I missing? Your observation of Twitter lists introduced new considerations I hadn't thought about yet. Both here and on your blog, you highlight weaknesses in the system, be it on Twitter or in our own competitive nature.

What I am interested in exploring is the perception of authority or influence. You write on your blog that, "Twitter Lists Do Not Equal Authority or Influence." In the real world, how do people claim (or earn) influence and authority? To some, it may be in the number of books written on a subject (authority). To others, it may be his/her charismatic personality (influence). Whatever or however it happens, we know that some have it (influence and/or authority) and others do not.

Consider this thought. What if influence and/or authority can be measured by the number of topically related lists someone has found themselves occupying. In the grand scheme of things, the numbers represent people's perception. A person with a few lists under their belt may mean nothing. However, someone with a large following and list presence may be grounds for some kind of suitable metric, don't you think? Maybe its not influence or authority, but can we agree that it is something?

Re: What Does Twitter Lists Reveal About You?

Thank you very much, Myrna! If everyone within that circle subscribes to the list, then it could be a way to start and maintain an ongoing conversation between friends.

For small businesses that follow customers on Twitter, they could create a list (conversation) and place known customers within it. Assuming those customers know about the list and subscribe to it, the company has just initiated an open style chat room in which anyone can eaves drop (and eventually join).

That's a very rough idea that may need to be revised, but I definitely think there is an opportunity to promote community within Twitter.

What do you think?

Re: What Does Twitter Lists Reveal About You?

I use lists on Facebook and Tweetdeck. The immediate benefit is filtering out the noise enough to interact effectively with friends. With Twitter's list enhancement, I feel like I have a responsibility to my Twitter connections to choose wisely. However, I haven't figured out how to maximize the benefit to them. I'm watching others closely in an effort to identify best uses.

Re: Foursquare: Explore Popular Cities With Friends

After further investigation, and reviewing Louis Gray's share of my latest blog, I found that Blogger automatically forwarded my RSS feeds to a "salmon" test page. Instead of the images and formatting I intended readers to see, I experience a garbled mess. This morning, I think I understand what is going on. Based upon the statistics, there are a number of people that have subscribed to my feed before I moved it over to feedburner. For some odd reason, blogger's rss destroyed it where feedburner does not. Therefore, if it is not too much trouble, try subscribing to the blog from this URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/damondnollan

Let me know if you still experience a problem.

Thank you!

Re: Microbrews in Aluminum Cans

Nope.
