Onle of the last changes I made was to go with a very light theme with no CSS so that people could choose their own font via their browser preference.

However, that doesn't mean I'm not using *any* plugins now.. In fact, I currently have 33 active plugins, including: Add to Any, Akismet, All In One SEO, Disqus and more.

Hm, I could probably stand to get rid of some of the older ones, though.

Re: louisgray.com: Apple's Dashboard Widgets Comatose As iTunes App Store Skyrockets

On my creaky old mac mini, it's much happier if I hack OSX to prevent the dashboard from even loading. Why not have a public reference standard for transferring start and end coordinates, addresses, preferences, etc. between devices?

That sort of implementation might even bring about the sort of technological synergy that futurists love to dream about. Just think how nice it would be to plan a trip on your PC, click 'send to mobile', and then have your mobile sync with your nav unit when you get in the car. No muss, no fuss.

Re: Posting and Pulling Comments From FriendFeed

I would like to see Disqus pull through Tumblr in addition to straight RSS.

Re: New Theme, New Thoughts, Less Fluff

Thanks Scott! They've done that since before the Mashable integration, since their primary tool is a direct competitor to backtype connect.

But perhaps there is some ongoing work on the connection between Disqus and the UberVu engine that we aren't privy to. I don't see a mention of this new feature on the Disqus blog, after all.

Re: Disqus “Social Media Reactions” Now Available To The Public?

When Disqus rolled out FF support they chose to import all existing FF comments all at once, maybe we're all stuck in that sort of plodding back-to-front scan right now. As for Firebug I'm not going to install Firefox just to suss out a problem especially when I'll never use after that point.

I haven't ruled out using WP-Cache but given where *I think* the problem is occurring I'm not sure if that will make the difference but then I could very well be wrong.

Re: Okay Wordpress you really need to address this

Quick question Steven, have you tried using Firebug and ySlow to figure out how heavy your theme is? I'd try this first. It's an invaluable tool for optimizing page load times.

You'll probably find it's the WP theme itself that you are using. You can do some things to optimize it, like taking all the comments and whitespace out of your css page, but otherwise some themes are just faster than others.

If you are resigned to your theme's size, you can use WP-Cache or supercache to make it faster. Cache requires much less in terms of sacrifice in order to work correctly.

On the admin side, there's always Google Gears to pep things up.
