So instead of doing a /join #topic to see all messages related to the topic, in twitter you search for the hashtag, and get back a list of tweets resembling a irc channel.

>It completely killed the +ops crap that made IRC get on your nerves
>after a while.

How are you gonna fight hashtag-based spam and abuse in Twitter without a op? When you search for a hashtag (i.e. when you join a twitter channel) everybody has to filter out spam and abuse tweets themselves. Sometimes it isnt bad to have an op for a certain channel/topic/hasttag.

Re: the thorny issue of blog comment ownership -

I know that my monthly summaries rarely get comments, while more discussion-friendly topics (like this) do spur conversation. But for some reason, the way I'm wired, I really dig the stats. I remember yours and Jason of Webomatica used to do them quite a bit, which in turn, inspired my monthly updates. I would read yours and others if they were posted.

Re: louisgray.com: Should Bloggers Open Up Their Statistics?

"Talking about visit counts can be seen as off-limits as one's salary."

Actually, talking about visit counts can be seen as being boring. :)

I use to do this all the time when I started blogging ( http://internetducttape.com/category/statistics... )... then I realized people who aren't also bloggers don't really care.

It's like how most sidebar widgets benefit the blogger instead of the reader. Your stats are interesting to you because it's your blog. Other people? Not so much.

Re: 4,000 new users - someone pass the aspirin

I don't doubt that currently Macs are to some extent more secure out of the box than PCs because of their unix history. However while damage to the underlying OS install maybe harder the fact that the user data can be gotten at alone should suggest that at some point once Mac's market share proves attractive to malware authors that it to will need increasing better security measures.

It isn't a matter of if it will happen to the Mac but more of a matter of when.

Re: 4,000 new users - someone pass the aspirin

If they're using the same security set up as their unix base then they should be inherently more secure because you aren't running as administrator - ever.

It's really hard to do long term damage to an OS without admin access, although you can still trash all the user data.

But yeah, that's kind of boneheaded move. There probably going to be at least two months of lost productivity because of the new OS... I wonder how many of those 4000 have never used OSX?

Re: How to get Twitter some S BUX

There's still a lot of Starbucks out here in Ottawa

Re: GReader Shared Links - the new territory of self-promotion

our own stuff is never as awesome or blogosphere shattering as we like to
think.
