It's because you are displaying a type of logical fallacy called 'hasty generalization'. When you misuse the 'data' the way you've been doing, it's an inductive generalization. This data can be rearranged to note that the police blotter is filled with all MALES or all YOUNG people or ROMAN CATHOLICS (if we estimate 80-90% of Mexicans being Roman Catholic).

That, and perhaps the *way* you are doing it. on. every. post. What exactly are you trying to gain? A ballot measure to just start rounding up all brown-looking people JUST IN CASE? Awesome sci-fi movie material.

But heck, you called me a -douche-, so I expect any type of reasonable discourse is out of the question. It operates on the principle that much internet discussion is based upon: anonymous vitriol. No need to worry about having accountability for words.

Thanks for your comments, Norm. It drives me up the wall seeing the snark in the comments that devolve the whole gang situation as "buncha punks we gotta git 'em deport 'em shoot 'em", without any regard to the massive, MASSIVE infrastructure and organization that is North American gangs. It loops from the streets to prisons to the respective home countries and back. But hey, we live in the Twitter world now. It's soundbites or nothin'.

The promenade is nice, but too large for our small downtown.
We have limited space downtown... why gobble up so much for parkway/walkway?

Shouldn't 1st priority be retail.
2nd should be parking.
3rd should be a scaled down 3rd street promenade.
Or do we simply want a very expensive taxpayers' "Promenade to NO-where".

and why the wasteful parallel parking ? we'd get twice the parking spaces if they were perpendicualar to the street, instead of parallel.

If I recall, it was an issue of density (or lack thereof). MH wanted Whole Foods, but they didn't want MH. Not enough population with a certain area to justify.

Love the signs. They call out attractions and points of interests that might have gone unnoticed. They also give MH a bit of a 'there's stuff to do here' vibe while attempting to promote some sort of city character and soul (which some might consider to be either lacking or non-existent).

I can wake up in the morning and see a conclusive story that OMG socialized healthcare is the devil and by the time I go to bed, I see a conclusive story that OMG no big deal, it's fine. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Besides, if America's the best thing since the invention of the solar system, wouldn't *we* be able to do socialized health care better than the *rest* of the world? I mean, come on, we're AMERICA, we can do no wrong, right?

We're almost the best in the world at arrogance, but I think China has us beat. Go fig.

I'm in my late 30s and currently behind the helm of five twitter accounts, one of which is @morganhill.

The short-form publishing format of Twitter and other services has history in SMS messaging-- limited by 160 characters worldwide. Twitter allows for 140 characters (reduced from 160 for extra administrative overhead). The medium itself requires the abbreviation of common words. For example 'you' and 'too' become 'u' and '2'. "Before" becomes 'b4'. This short form real estate is dictated by brevity.

A deeper problem is the brevity of information. For those of us that lament the headline-driven soundbite-obsessed media culture of America, the short form of Twitter brings the publishing of the almighty headline within reach of the common man.

I've found that even I'm aware of this, limiting my tweets length to accommodate 're-tweeting', the act of re-broadcasting a short update, or 'tweet'.

For example, I've tweeted this very op-ed and it occupies all but 35 characters, so anyone who receives my @morganhill update can re-post it with automatic attribution.

A 're-tweet' would look like: "RT @morganhill Robert Mitchell has an op-ed in MH Times about Twittering leading to Twubble (groan) http://rez.to/ymftra" with 20 characters remaining.

The do-it-yourself soundbite culture is the bigger concern. Imagine in 20-30 years when those raised in today's climate start crafting legislation. Is it any surprise that 1000 pages of proposed legislation in our government isn't being read?

Our DNA is changing, and that's where our attention should be.

Good point, Eric. If that's the case, if indies won't fly, we DO NOT need a theatre in downtown. The city should SAVE their ONE THIRD OF A MILLION DOLLARS.

What is the purpose of MH City/taxpayers spending 310k+ just so people can watch a movie downtown instead of at Tennant station?
Tax payers Costs = 310k +
Benifit = ? you tell me.
Do the benifits Really outway the cost of spending 1/3 MILLION dollars?

“The Morgan Hill Redevelopment Agency will spend $310,000 to renovate the Granada Theater to a level suitable for INTERIM cinema use.” Isn’t 310k a little excessive for an interim project ?

btw - Sure, Gunksy is all for it. The money is not coming out of his pocket. Easy for him to want all the nice new amenities.
