YES, gmail will give you the option to send mail from those other addresses. In fact I believe the default is that when replying gmail will use the address that the email was sent to as the 'from' address. make sense? Personally, I'd be afraid of making a mistake and sending an email from the wrong address but that decision is up to you I suppose. Let me know how it works for you ...

the easiest way is to press cmd-t in the new safari window. this creates two tabs in the new window. now you can drag the desired tab between the safari windows. then simply close the safari window containing only the empty tab.

good suggestion - in fact I used to use that method myself. however, there are two problems with it:
1) isn't really syncing, rather one way update
2) kills all authorization for gtalk - this one is the real annoyance since you'll have to reauthorize all your chat friends each time you update your contacts via AtoG

I agree, Google's new advanced imap features have made this tip less relevant (I've stopped using it myself).

Now I simply remove any IMAP prefix (before the changes described in the link this would have made a mess of folders in Mail.app) and then use Assign folders action for my Sent, Drafts, and Trash mailboxes.

Excellent Tip! I wasn't aware of the manual sync script. You could also add this as an alias in your local .bashrc file for quick execution, i.e.,

alias gsync='/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GoogleContactSync.framework/Versions/A/Resources/gconsync --sync com.google.ContactSync --report 1 --entitynames "com.apple.contacts.Contact,com.apple.contacts.Email Address,com.apple.contacts.IM,com.apple.contacts.Phone Number,com.apple.contacts.Street Address"'

note, that is a double quote followed by a single quote at the end there.

You are probably right, I just thought that some might appreciate the more 'graphical' nature of Beagle. Google Desktop definitely does a better job of search (especially within files).
