I'm partial to "The Sound and the Fury" and the Snopes trilogy myself.

Re: Never cared for the girl next door. - One last GPOYW before the night is over, I...

It's not that so much. It's hard to explain.

I guess it was just so over-hyped to me, that I expected something phenomenal, especially coming from the South. Now everyone who likes him gives me the whole "Oh, you probably just ~don't understand~." and I guess that's the case, but I'd like to know what I'm not understanding.

As I Lay Dying might just be particularly uneventful and not nearly as poignant as I was led to believe it was. I'm not excited or affected by any of the characters, anything they do or think and aside from being of a familiar dialect, the style of writing isn't anything I haven't seen done better.

Re: Never cared for the girl next door. - One last GPOYW before the night is over, I...

Faulkner's my all-time favorite author, but I'd never argue that everyone should love his stuff -- it really does require complete attention, and 2009 is less than conducive.

Re: Kite flying isn't my thing after all.

I envy your lovely Pacific beaches, and was happy to stop at a couple during last week's whirlwind tour. All I could do was walk around and shoot pictures, as I had my worky clothes on.
