WordPad finally has ODF (as well as OOXML) support and there's rudimentary ISO burning from Explorer (I don't think you can change burn speed, though).

Voyagerfan's right about the Performance options (it exists in XP, Vista and 7). To get to it, go to System in the Control Panel (or just Win+Pause there), go to Advanced system settings, then into Performance settings.

A companion to the new WordPad that does spreadsheets would be great, too. Not sure how likely it'd be, of course, but it'd be useful.

Re: Why Being Anonymous Isn’t a Bad Thing

Haha. *tips hat*

Re: Why Being Anonymous Isn’t a Bad Thing

Thanks. I upmodded yours because it possessed a better quality - being interesting. :D

Well, I just can't stop trying to figure out what your name is. Could it be Scott? Could it be James? Could it be Vincent Franklin?

Re: Why Being Anonymous Isn’t a Bad Thing

I know what you mean in regards to building up an online 'alter ego' (to use possibly the worst phrase imaginable for this context). I've attempted to completely shift between accounts a couple of times before and I was only successful once (more recent attempts have left me with the problem of being known by three usernames).

Personally, I doubt I'll drop my anonymity (which is really one-sided since everyone I know knows exactly whom to blame when that idiot Cyvros or auldor or fyc does something generally idiotic). Of course, if I become a well-known webcomic artist (ha!) or a well-known blogger (*spit-take*), then I'll reconsider my decision. I just don't see much of a reason for lowering The Mysterious Shroud Of Mysteriously Shrouded Mystery of my identity.

Re: A blogger’s secret weapon - the sidebar

My thing with widgets is that, every time I assume that no one can possibly come up with an idea for a new widget, someone does. And I bristle. (Bristle!) I think my main problem with widgets is that what I personally deem to be too many people tend to use what I personally deem to be too many widgets, leading to a cramped and crowded layout. Maybe I'm just a crazy, minimalist elitist or a crazy, elitist minimalist or simply a crazy elitimalist.

Some sidebars I don't mind, though, but that's mainly because they're customisable and linked to user accounts (e.g. on /.), which would probably be somewhat of an overkill for blogs.

Re: A blogger’s secret weapon - the sidebar

I generally ignore the sidebar. I'll glance at it the first time I come to a blog (mainly for any site navigation or to see if the person's on Twitter, FF, etc.), but widgets like Lijit or MyBlogLog don't really draw my attention. If there's a poll, I'll check it out, but nothing much else. I'm rather single-minded when it comes to reading something.

Re: A new kind of Twitter outage (Scripting News)

The Twitter site itself has been highly-erratic today and I've seen the maintenance page about a dozen times already. It was a bit like this some time last week, but not as much.

Re: Are you using Firefox 3? (Scripting News)

Yep, I've been using it since the first non-2.0 nightlies (I've gone to the more stable beta 5 now). I absolutely love it, mainly because of Places and the Awesome Bar. Other favourite things: (multi-word) tagging; better UI, no matter what OS (GTK icons!); and far less memory hoggage than Fx 2.
