Not sure if/when it will be on iTunes. It's already on Amazon, in CD form only, for $1 cheaper than CD Baby (no download yet). I am also currently the only reviewer of the CD at Amazon. :-)

As for playing at the farm, oh well, at least we get many opportunities to see them! :-)

Re: Yonder Mountain String Band at Tarrytown Music Hall

Michael, I totally appreciate the time and effort it took to share your thoughts with me, and for the overwhelming majority of your points, I completely agree.

I only took the venue to task for booking them, clearly, not YMSB's fault!

I realized that he was joking about the ascot, but it came across as a way to egg the crowd on to be themselves, as if there was nothing different about this venue or audience. In other words, the band didn't do anything (including just staying out of it) to find a workable blend once the mis-match of band and venue occurred.

A few days later, they played an outdoor festival. I bothered to listen to the entire thing on archive.org. It was excellent (musically), but even there, the band was nasty about the IBMA's, and about the audience that just "didn't know what they were getting themselves into". Again, they wear it like a badge of honor. I can live with it, and it's working for them (commercially), but it's certainly not inclusive.

I really hope I didn't come across as judging people in their "real lives" by their behavior at the show. If I did, I apologize, as that wasn't my intent, or my normal style. The fact that people are good and decent in their normal lives still doesn't excuse them from being rude while "on vacation". :-)

I'm definitely willing to check them out in a different venue, I really do like their sound!

Finally, I was impressed that even the few fans who started off quite harshly in their comments to me, presumably wanting to dish out to me to same medicine they thought I was dishing, became extremely civil, helpful and informative, when we actually engaged in dialogue. That says more to me about YMSB's fans than just seeing them as a group in the audience.

Thanks again Michael, perhaps we'll cross paths at a future show! :-)

Re: Paper Raincoat at Joe’s Pub

Thanks Alex. Michelle Malone is listed as the official opening act, so the quartet appears to be a surprise, just like Jill Hennessy was for our show the night before.

If I spot any updates, I'll be sure to add a comment here.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Re: Indigo Girls at Tarrytown Music Hall

Indeed! I was remiss in not updating the post above with Kentric's name after the first comment let me know his name. I have (finally) corrected that and put in a link to Kentric's MySpace page as well. He is indeed an extraordinary musician, and I'm delighted to hear that he's a great son too! :-)

Re: Sierra Hull in Madison Square Park

I am very glad you weighed in, so please don't ever hesitate! Taking your points in the order you made them:

1) I was being kind about the opening act. I believe what I said, that she is talented in many ways, but it just didn't work for me (and you either).

2) Aside from the one long instrumental song (which perhaps occurred after you left?), it's not typical in Bluegrass for solos to last too long. So, Sierra was playing the mandolin as she normally would. On the one instrumental number, she was highlighted more than the others (quite a bit), but the song was long, and they each took at least 3 solos a piece!).

3) Sierra's voice is usually stronger than it appeared on Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised to find out she had a bit of a cold, or was just run down a bit. So, I'm not actually surprised at your comment. That said, I still liked it. And, I definitely liked the harmonies, so perhaps I'm just more used to their particular blend (after all, I do listen to the CD, so most of the tunes are very familiar to me).

4) Believe it or not, having never come to one of these, our first instinct was to get in the back of the line to wait to be seated. Thankfully, we immediately asked what line it was, and were told it was the line for the Shake Shack. :-) So, no, we didn't wait, nor eat there. Interestingly, while I've heard from quite a number of people that they have the best burgers in town, the guy we sat next to told us he tried it, and wasn't impressed...

Finally, and this is just a general comment, musical tastes run the gamut, so it wouldn't surprise me if we "heard it differently", even if I wasn't able to "explain" the difference from my perspective this time. For example, U2 has to be one of the biggest phenomenons in music history. I don't really know them well. I taped SNL this week to see what the fuss was all about. I couldn't believe my ears. It was pure noise, nothing musical at all. And yes, I _love_ good Rock, so it wasn't Bluegrass snobbery. ;-)

Thanks again Alan, we really did love it, and we have you to thank for us getting to see it!

Re: Red Molly and The Nields at Joe’s Pub

Agree on your comment on the version with Susan.

Yes, I saw the Sierra Hull time. She has an opening act, so it would be tight for us (our thing is at 5:30pm in Mountain Lakes, NJ).

That said, we're likely going to go for it, and be very humble in making our excuses for being a little late to that party. ;-)

Thanks again for the heads up on Sierra, we now have something to really look forward to!

Re: Wicked Again

Thanks for sharing that Eric. It's nice to know that the performances in the "other" cities are so solid as well. In fact, Kate Reinders, who was also an extraordinary Glinda, starred in Chicago for a long time before coming to Broadway. When she was there, Ana Gasteyer (of Saturday Night Live fame) played Elphaba opposite her. Then, for a limited run at the end of 2007, Ana played Elphaba on Broadway opposite Kate again (and we got to see her once). She was very good, but no quite as good as Dee and Eden.

Come to NYC with your wife, and make us go for our 9th time with the two of you. ;-)

Re: Red Molly and The Nields at Joe’s Pub

Wow. We're both crazy about Sierra Hull. We have something in Jersey at night, but if she's playing during the day in NY, then we might just have to come in for that. I'll check it out. Thanks for the info!

Thanks also for the info on Abbie. That's another that I'll check out.

I understand how you feel about Red Molly, but we're currently enthralled by them.

Lois has been sharing the following link widely, with rave reviews:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNqywS4TPw0

Here's another version, with Susan Werner joining them (she wrote the song):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh4xg3nRz8k

Thanks Alan!

Re: Wicked Again

Indeed! I just listened to the entire BB King show, it was great. The banter was wonderful, they were all really on that night. It's unfortunate for us that we didn't discover EFO earlier, as we attend many shows at BB King, and would like have caught this one live.

In any case, thanks again, and here's the direct link to that show for anyone who might be interested in listening to them:

http://www.archive.org/details/EFO2007-09-13.fl...

Re: Eddie From Ohio at Innsbrook After Hours

Thanks for sharing the above! In addition to our original Looking out the Fishbowl, at the show, we picked up Quick and the two-volume Three Rooms Live. We listen to all of them over and over, they're terrific CDs.

It's ironic that you commented today. I have visited archive.org in the past, but usually only when someone passed me a specific link. Today, I went there purposely, for the first time, and clicked on the live show link. Holy cow! Over 6800 Grateful Dead shows (for example).

Now I know which EFO to start with, thanks to you! :-)

Thanks again for sharing!

Re: Yonder Mountain String Band at Tarrytown Music Hall

I really like this idea!

We're regulars at the CMA Songwriters Series at Joe's Pub. I did do research, in the sense that I listened to the band, and decided I liked their music a lot! What I didn't do was read enough to get a sense of what the audience is like.

Even so, I might not have believed that this particular venue would turn into the same kind of party, given that I had been there six times already, and no show was like that.

My hat's off to the hardy fans of YMSB who could turn an old staid theater into that kind of party. My basic complaint was that the show could have been billed differently.

C'est la vie. I still listened to the band the next day, and still liked it. I'm a big boy, and now that I've gotten it off my chest, I'm moving on. :-)

Perhaps I will see you at a future show, hopefully an outdoors one!
