Interesting point by John Wallis, "...corporate America stopped traveling on Sept. 16 of last year..."-with the recent economic downturn, corporations are traveling less. What's interesting is that this has led to an increase in entrepreneurs, smaller companies, traveling more, even if it is regional travel because of the opportunities afforded by the need of corporation's to contract out services to smaller firms that were always done in-house.

The use of Twitter is great; may I suggest (if you are not already doing it), offering weekday/weeknight specials that are only available for 24 hours through Twitter. I would assume that many of your followers are people that not only travel often for their work, but as well for leisure. Abrupt changes/opportunities in schedule plans is common place for your followers, this may be of great interest to them and potential, future Twitter-followers. I know it would interest me, and I am one of your followers! ;O)

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/05/relaunchxing-socialmedian.html

Congratulations....I am looking forward to using Xing in the near future; I think socialmedian will help it grow tremendously.

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/05/10-rules-for-todays-consumers-in-new.html

As always, Louis, a tremendous post.

What's interesting is that this 'manifesto', 'evolution', or however you choose to describe it, has always existed, in my opinion. What's changed is the consumer's opportunity to access more information in real-time, create its (the consumer) own media (blogs, podcasts, etc.) at a low or no cost whatsoever. Add to this the opportunity to communicate with other like-minded consumers in real-time, no matter in what corner of the Earth you may physically reside, and you get a dramatic change from the days of tupperware parties, Avon door-to-door, etc.

Consumers have always been engaged w/ brands; now they have an opportunity to interact with them like never before.

Re: Identifying and nuking Twitter spammers

I never use Yahoo Pipes, this gives me a great excuse. It is interesting how well you (Jennifer) summarized Twine and Michael's immediate comment on that summary was on the money.

The UI was not attractive and I happen to think the site took on the personality of its creator/founder Nova Spivacek-very progressive, ahead of its time, with trouble efficiently detailing its importance to the social media community.

Again, I think it is great and believe they will continue to reach new heights, even if we, as a community, have to play catch-up or try harder to decifer their poorly-communicated (at times) service to us; from what they have produced, it is well worth the time!

Re: Moved my 41400 Comments into Disqus

Welcome to Disqus, Chris! You know what I have thought of recently?! The fact that, no matter what industry you are in (w/ very few exceptions, if any), you MUST be up-to-date with technology.

What does it say if technology is doubling its capacity every two years and we have TOP executives that still don't understand the basic premise of social media/networking?! It will come to a point where you will not be able to 'ramp up' in information, b/c, if you don't know how this trend began, its underpinnings, you will not be able to understand its evolution. It just won't make sense to many people.

I guess what I mean to say is....if they want you to dumb-it-down now....where will these people be in 3 - 5 years?! Technology waits for no one.

Re: How Journalists Can Leverage Social Media | Social Media Explorer

Great post. Funny, to me, everything you wrote is a no-brainer. But, there is no doubt that there are many journalists that need to read this post. Many of them feel intimidated ( or feel superior to) by Web 2.0 and bloggers. I would know, as I deal with them daily.

By no means are all journalists acting this way. There are many journalists that are taking full advantage of all the tools Web 2.0 offers them to better their craft and connect with their audience. Honestly, I think we are just scratching the surface. The integration of the semantic web, or Web 3.0 as some call it, will take the tools that you detailed in those post to another level. It will streamline the processes for effective journalism and outreach of message. Can't wait.

Re: Netflix To Offer Streaming as a Standalone Subscription Plan

LOL...yes, their selection of 'watch now' movies isn't the best BUT once this service is offered, I would imagine it would include a majority, if not all, of the movies on their site. It is a very valid point. Twitter, with its 140 character length tweets, is geared more through topic-oriented follows. Not to say that there are not people that you may want to read their twitter feeds solely, but I get your point. At the end of the day, IMHO, Twitter can be used so many ways-whatever way satisfies your personal/bsns need (or both, whatever your inclination) is the right way.

Like I told a recent friend on Twitter, "There are no rules in Social Media-TOS yes, rules no."

All the best.....

Re: Stop Being So Busy to Catch Up With Friends

Good for you, DCFemella.

In order to receive, we must give.

Love and friendship are a two-way street. What most advertising agency personnel do not grasp is that they MUST be up on technology. Almost all of them are not. Technology is advancing so quickly that if you don't know what is the most efficient way to deliver results for your client(s) currently, you will not have them as a client. We are seeing it in the US Hispanic market, a nascent industry going through tremendous client turnover due to the current economic climate and agency's reluctance to become much more digital-focused.

Re: You are a Social Network

I took a left turn in the 2.0 Universe; it' ok, I'm back on track....got you on the GPS, so we should be fine from here on out..... ;P

Re: You are a Social Network

Well-written. I tell people all the time that they must look at their time on social networks, as if they were in a plaza, in an office. Act accordingly; online is nothing but a microcosm of real world relationships, in which-with the advent of mass HD availability and video-messaging sites like Seesmic o photo-messaging like Qik-the line is becoming more and more blurrier.

Online will not replace real world, but what it will do is extend and complement real world. People who understand this will have no problem flourishing w/ their online relationships.

{btw, great blog redesign-it's been a minute since i've been on the site....you've done good!! ;-) }

Re: How to choose a social media agency

Great, insightful article....Busby SEO-hard to believe their are people like that!
