Foursquare's reliance on street addresses will be its downfall. Gowalla is GPS savvy, and I love that I can create a "spot" that might not even be on a street -- say, a favorite tree within a park, or a lookout point along a trail.

I reviewed several of these social geolocation services this week, and am happy to see others comparing and thinking about them.

http://www.hawaiiweblog.com/2009/11/02/geolocation

Re: Roz Is OFF!

Aloha e Leo! Must make it more of a priority to have tweetups when I'm back in town! And yes, I think you're a SM professional, but notice I didn't say "expert". You really are one of the people that I know that keeps up with all the cool things going online. Hope you can make it out to SXSW (sell Zippy's chili tickets!). I know I'll be going - it's a MUST in my priority list!

Re: South by Southwest: sessions & events do not a boondoggle make.

It was great to see you again, finally. I'm a social media professional? Has anyone told my boss? I'll make do with geek for now. But I agree, SXSW was worth it. Among the most rewarding and valuable and enjoyable conferences I've ever attended. I don't know how I'm going to afford it next year, but I'm going to find a way.

Re: Hawaii’s move to digital TV surprises some residents

Thanks, Ryan. Residents who had spliced into the analog cable signal may have lost their stolen service today, however."

I'm not sure what you mean here. We have basic analog cable service, and as expected, were not affected. I'm sure my friends follow interesting people, but I can pick up those conversations on my own, if they're active enough to "bubble over." The Brian Oberkirch tweet was a joke, and he's not the creator of Twitterank. The Twitterank page previously featured a tongue-in-cheek warning about being careful with your service passwords, but it's been commented out (which is now offered up as further evidence there's something awful going on).

It's spreading virally, like anything that lets Twitter users massage their egos, but that doesn't make it nefarious.

Is it a bad idea to give your Twitter password out willy nilly? Sure. But tell that to all the fans of BrightKite, TweetDeck, and a multitude of other services that "plug in" to Twitter. (Including Mashable's handy "share my comment on Twitter" comments!) Basically, Twitter offers only password authentication to verify accounts, whatever the purpose.

For there to be this Chicken Little response for this one app is ridiculous.

Re: How Soon Can Your Child Start Using Computers?

I have kids ages 4, 6, and 10, and all three are big fans of WebKinz and Club Penguin.
