Our defense needed a stop. We needed to do something, right then, if we wanted to change the outcome of that game.

Patrick Peterson made that play.

Big time players make big time plays in big time games. Patrick Peterson is a big time player that made that big time play in the big time game.

The officiating took that out of his hands.

In doing so, they affected the outcome of the game.

It's unfair, on two levels:

1.) Inexcusable to deny LSU the opportunity to win the game on the field.

2.) Inexcusable to give Alabama a victory marred by that type of game-changing blunder.

If I'm an LSU Fan (and of course I am), I want our team to be able to win the game on the field. I want that opportunity.

If I'm an Alabama Fan (and of course I am not), I want my team to say we stopped their asses & won the game on the field. I want that opportunity.

Neither team gets that opportunity.

I would link many YouTube's (made by neither LSU Fans nor Alabama Fans, which is surprising), as well as photos, stills, & even the SI writer's over the top photo of the divot created by Peterson's foot as he tore up Bryant Denny's turf to give his team the opportunity to win the game.

It's a bit of overkill, though. We've seen this tired script remade by inept director after inept director. No matter how many times someone gives this story a new treatment, the box office returns will be bullch!t. No one wants to see a d@mn game decided in a booth.

Makes me utterly sick.

Re: Urban Meyer to be the Example Under New SEC 'No-Whining' Mandate?

I didn't notice it until you did...

That IS hilarious...

Well done, OU_Ron...Well done, sir!

Re: Urban Meyer to be the Example Under New SEC 'No-Whining' Mandate?

I was confident as the season began. Our sputtering offensive line & the slow progression of the defense had me quiet at first.

I have become more & more enamored with the Chavis D as time has passed. You take away garbage scores late in victories against UW & Auburn, & we probably have a better scoring D than you guys do.

The Chavis Defense has taken some time for our personnel to develop into. Case in point is #11. Kelvin Shepperd had-I think-less than 20 tackles on the year through the 1st 4 games of the season.

He's had 39 tackles in the last 3 games, with 3 straight games of 13. First time since anyone not named Bradie James has done that, when he did it in 3 straight games in 2002.

Bradie James is now a Pro-Bowl starting linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.

I'm hearing that Kelvin's stock has absolutely SHOT up draft boards with this year's progression. You guys will really get a chance to see him flow to the ball & how active he is tomorrow. He may have a decision to make when the year's out.

As far as the actual outcome of the game is concerned, well, what can I say? You guys couldn't throw it on a defense with an 18 year old playing Safety in Janzen Jackson, & on defense, you let Jonathan Crapton throw it for almost 250 with walk-ons & 18 year olds at wide receiver.

I also hear that your TE is dinged, who is a huge part of the pass offense. From what I've gathered, Julio's gonna be featured, as ya'll will try to feed him the ball early. I have the utmost confidence in our Secondary's ability to cover. The question is whether we can send timely pressure.

McElroy is decidedly different when he has to worry about pressure. He takes his eyes off the downfield throws bigtime once he's felt the footsteps a few times. Saban alluded to it in the PC this week: The throws down the field on verticals are being called. They're not being made.

I am licking my chops, because our defense is primed. I expect a somewhat low scoring affair. Something along the lines of the LSU/UGA game.

My guess is also that Alabama is going to come out tight. They have faced some inferior opponents the past few years and played lights out in "alleged big games" (See VT this year, as well as Clemson & UGA last year). But, this is a team that can match them in talent, skill, & yes...coaching.

It's going to be a fun one to watch. It hinges on the QB play for both teams, & how they react to the pressure. Can LSU generate it? Can LSU's QB withstand it?

I'm ready!

Re: Urban Meyer to be the Example Under New SEC 'No-Whining' Mandate?

I could say something about what you were poked in the eyes a lot with as a child...but I sort've got tired of the BP you were tossing to me on that other thread. Those boogers you were flicking up to the plate were like softballs at the BALCO Company Softball Tournament...

So I'll just clue you in, though I shouldn't have to. You've been here long enough to know that I dish it out equally to everyone. I also take my fair share, as well. But, please don't act like I'm anymore harsh to you than I am to say, Alabama.

I'm sure that Bama_Babe & B_C, and the other Bama fans here will "back me up on this one" (WEA, I'm trying to bring that phrase back!)...So please stop acting as if I have some vendetta against UF.

I have a vendetta against EVERYONE that's not LSU. He'd been coddled for athletic prowess & superiority. It's been cultivated, & he's been appeased, courted, & begged to allow others to develop & use it for him.

But make no mistake, the culture this kid's been in-and by culture, I mean the football program-has allowed him to react this way.

...and to show you I'm open-minded, I think Richt's just as devoid of program discipline as Meyer is, when you look at the oafish celebration antics, nevermind the idiotic allowance of Moreno to do those childish dances on the field in the middle of games. His kids doing the same thing should be disciplined the same way if we can show that it happened. I think Mr. 2 Bits did...

But, this kid has half a year left before he becomes a highly paid, & even more coddled professional athlete.

What he's been shown is that there are no real consequences to his actions. Yes, there's a small media firestorm. But, on Saturday, he will still strap on his helmet & don shoulder pads. He will get to run out onto that field, & get to play a game he loves. A game that-God willing-will erase all financial worries & concern for-quite literally-generations of his family.

What he did this past Saturday, and what Meyer has done to him in response, has shown him that his behavior has absolutely no consequence. It won't cost him one single thing. In reality, he has not been punished.

You're very much correct, Zac. It was a teaching moment. It was a teaching moment where he was negatively reinforced based on his behavior.

I would sincerely like to hear from Huxley Hoffman...Not only because he is a Florida fan, but because I believe he is imminently qualified to comment on this subject. He's got some interesting, very informed angles to weigh in from.

I hope that before this thread dies down, he'll make an appearance & make some pertinent comments.

Re: Florida's Brandon Spikes Playing Dirty Against Georgia?

I'm not trying to dredge up bitter memories or whatnot...

But, 2005...We roll in as a 1-loss, 5th ranked team. You guys had beaten down Meyer 31-3, looked like a fire-breathing college football dragon, & were looking to perhaps crash the USC/UT party as the undefeated #3 ranked team in America.

Then, you guys lost Prothro to that horrible injury. The defense manned up & went all '85 Bears. Didn't allow a touchdown for 7 years straight or some crazy stat like that (Hat Tip: Joe "Gravel Larnyx" Kines for that one).

LSU rolls in with only a bad Katrina/Rita-related weird 2nd half loss from Tennessee on their record as a black mark.

Epic game, & you hold us in the 1st half, but JaMarcus-a kid from Mobile, no less-leads LSU on an opening drive in the 2nd half that ties it up, & he ends up throwing the winning touchdown pass to Dwayne Bowe in overtime to drive a stake through your collective hearts.

How did that feel?

BTW-You do realize that if LSU can pull off the W, then we'll have our own mini-streak going? We haven't lost in Bryant Denny in this entire decade...Let's hope we can close things out with one last W!
