Some of the most beautiful women I know (including professional models) have some of the worst self-esteem and are very depressed. What a terrible paradox.

Re: Maybe I Will Stick With My Day Job

Man, it's too bad Warren Buffett is gone. He was a die-hard realist and amazing salt-of-the-earth sort of character even when he was worth billions. And then, he shrugged and gave those billions to good causes.

More respect I could not have for a single individual.

Re: A note to grammar and spelling police – KMA!

Agh. Keep going, Steve. I don't listen to or trust critics who don't put their full name and real picture to their opinions. As Bob Dylan says: "executioner's face is always well hidden" :-)

Re: Maybe I Will Stick With My Day Job

I'll follow up with words from John Wayne to Barbara Walters: "Don't let the bastards get you down." There have always been bullies and cranky "critics" and people fueled by general meanness and depression and personal frustration, and the internet just makes it easier for those people to speak up. Most of them are just noise, so don't listen. I like Warren Buffett's response to people who try to tell him what to do: "'I love painting my own painting. I come down to the office, I get on my back, and I start painting. And I think I'm in the Sistine Chapel. It's my painting. Now, if somebody says, 'Use more red paint instead of blue. Paint a seascape instead of a landscape,' I would hand them the brush in five seconds and I'd say - I'd say a few other things, too - but I'd say, 'Do your own painting. I'll go paint what I want to paint.'": http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/01/news/companies/...

Re: Smiles on a Summer Night: Fresh Mango Margarita Recipe

I know, right? FF is fundementally a closed system and for it to be a search engine it would need to have a far wider range of data to pull from than just what the members of FF have linked to or talked about. It is an interesting thought though especially if you look at it as a search engine based on possible content value over what any search engine gives you today.

To use Robert's analogy of trying to find information on cameras would the results of searching FF produce more relevant resiults than Google would - interesting

Re: Happy early adopters don’t equal success

Well-written post, and very thoughtful, but I disagree. I think FriendFeed has many implications far beyond early adopters. It's too early to say for certain, but I think FriendFeed is the beginning of a new type of search engine and has significant application to enterprise info-sharing as well. Google's products have not been fully integrated, and I think FriendFeed is that glue that can integrate them (as well as integrate many other products from many people). And I think Google would find that extremely valuable, don't you?

Re: Who The Heck Is Clicking On Blog Ads?

Good article. This is a major problem for bloggers, especially ones with tech-savvy audiences who are pretty much immune to advertising because it's poorly targeted and not that compelling. I think that's changing, though. And it needs to change so bloggers who have quality content (but maybe not that big of an audience) can make an ok living. And I think bigger brand advertisers are giving up their fear of venturing their media spend on blogs and seeing them for what they are: the place where influential people hang out. And actually, there was a Design Within Reach ad on the top of this blog post: http://skitch.com/ginmak3/prsf/who-the-heck-is-... It appealed to me somewhat and it's not a monkey to punch. So good job to the DWR and their agency for picking this blog to run ads on. Things are going to get better.

Re: The Great Immigration Panic

I feel like this story keeps repeating itself again and again.
