Quicker to just build something myself. Already had all the content in a database and couldn't be bothered to port it all to some other structure. Also didn't want to mess about making it not look like every other Wordpress blog theme.

Hum... not sure why that is. Might be your robots.txt disallowing access to it?

That URL does take quite a while to load (about 10sec from London) - perhaps Google is trying to load the favicon up on the fly but can't get to it?

Quite right. Exactly what I decided to do - no compromises due to the platform you're using and dead easy to integrate comments with disqus.
