Webkit is developed primarily by Apple. Gecko is used in Mozilla's browsers (Firefox, Seamonkey, etc.) and Webkit is used in Apple's browsers (Safari, iPhone, etc.). WebKit is also used in many third party browsers like Chrome, Midori, and Arora. Gecko is also used in my many third party browsers like Flock, Epiphany (webkit version also available), and Kazehakase.

So why does the article say "Firefox on the other hand has its own rendering engine called Gecko". Gecko has been around longer and is probably used in more browsers than Webkit is. Gecko is also portable and runs on mobile devices (MicroB, Fennec, and Minimo are all available for the Nokia Internet Tablets). Gecko is free and can be implemented elsewhere.

Also, another good free engine is KHTML. KHTML is implemented in Konqueror and has also been implemented in other browsers in the past (such as AWeb).

Re: Don’t Know About You But This Is Deceptive

My library has "free for thirty days" O'Reily books...

Re: Google, Please Give Me My Old Home Page Back

Hmm, I rather like it actually. I have to use Explorer at school and hate it. Konqueor is awesome... file previews, integrated kparts (pdf, documents, videos, images), tabs, split view, ftp, ssh/sftp, web browser (using it now). It is awesome. Very configurable and lots of options too.

Re: Google Page Rank updates begin to appear

I would argue that https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/... Live Pagerank is easier because it doesn't take up as much valuable screen space. :)

(Note: There are other similar extensions, this is just what I use.)

Re: Linuxy - LXDE - Lightweight X11 Desktops Environment

However, I do not appear in your number.

Also, when I do subscribe to a site, I usually subscribe in three places: Google Reader, my main news reader, my Nokia N800 for offline reading, and my laptop for offline reading. While I do like the theme, this and similar ones (Mac style) are used so often that I have grown tired of them.

Out of curiousity, why do you say this is a "Mac/Linux look"? Otherwise, there is going to be a lot more duplicate content.

I already try to delete any entries that are redudant, such as when I Stumble something that I like on Google Reader. Some users don't, but it's not a big deal. A lot of content is repeated. No big deal, I can ignore it. But if enough people use this, then there will be too much disorder.

Re: iPhone App Store first impression: Sublime beyond belief

I'm on my N800 right now.
