As someone who is never on anyone's lists about anything - good, bad or indifferent - I think we have to become reasonably philosophical about this. Most of us are only really known to a small handful of people on the web in relative terms - much as in real life our social circles do not usually consist of thousands of people - so maybe we should just choose to follow lists that seems relevant or interesting to us either personally or for our work and continue to cultivate and maybe extend our own little social circles online without wondering if we are hip, trendy or popular enough to be followed or listed?

As someone who excitedly bought an iPhone a couple of months ago on O2 but had to send it back because there wasnt sufficient cellular coverage where I live (Orange is about the best in my area) I wholeheartedly welcome this news and will definitely be donating my Samsung Tocca to a family member and upgrading to an iPhone when they are available on Orange. Best bit of news I've heard all day - ok it has been a bad day but still!

Like a lot of tools, once you have invested a lot of time creating content, "learning objects", structures and approaches, you become somewhat dependent on it. While I hate Blackboard's many deficiencies, I have learned the work arounds. Though I deplore the company's Borg-like assimilation methods, I usually roll my own. While I can't wait for BB 9 to be rolled out, I will have to manage for another year. But could I change to another tool? Not easily I think!

And even if I was flexible enough to migrate, I'm not sure that my students would be.

Despite actually being employed to admin Blackboard, it is just a tool to me and I would be just as happy looking after something a little more modern if it came my way :-)

This could in theory, save HEIs money on licensing costs perhaps? Some HEIs and other organisations have been unable to afford to upgrade their Office systems and thus staff/students/employees are still using old versions which, whilst perfectly adequate for basic tasks, do lack some of the more useful features of later versions. We are using Office XP 2002 in TUCC, for example.

A man after my own heart, Chris! I too use Chrome in the ways you described
and love the separate desktop apps for Gmail, Calendar and Reader both at
home and in work. I also use one for my Novell WebAccess work email when at
home which works great. I have also used Prism to create similar apps from
Firefox.
I am a big fan of Opera too, which I used for years not just as a browser,
but Opera Mail was my sole email client at home until going back to work
when I could not download emails through Opera at work as we are only
allowed to use Port 80 - apart from in our GroupWise desktop client. I then
set up Gmail to pick up all my personal email accounts and send from them so
that I can access other email in work too, if needed.

So I tend to flit between the 3 browsers at will, which is handy if you want
to keep signed in to a few different accounts for example.

I just cant get on with IE for some reason (although I have tried) and
usually ignore it as much as is humanly possible! Have you ever tried to
code websites for IE6 (and other normal browsers) ??? *shudders at the
traumatic memories invoked*

Ah thanks Chris...ii was a bit worried about their quality I must say as it is my first attempt. A very good point re adding feeds and that probably needs another short video to clarify.

Is it a bit sad of me to be disappointed that I am not on the list despite having tried out the procedure from RWW? Maybe I really need to get a life and stop paying attention to all these lists and numbers :-)
I probably used @swwtel_links instead of @juliadesigns but neither of my identities featured....Not that I really understand the list order and numbers by the names I must confess!

I dont have a warm fuzzy feeling about this myself, either. Somehow I tend to agree that FF is more geeky and Fb is more mainstream...I rather liked the distinction actually...ah well
