I do think sharing is a behavior marketers should consider of fundamental importance. The team at Impact Radius clearly agrees because our tracking technology and media management functionality supports the many possible paths to conversion consumers might take. We built the solution with the assumption affiliate marketers will blaze new trails well-beyond the web page promotions of last decade. It will be interesting and exciting to see how the marketers adapt.

Re: Savings.com: The California Internet Tax Law and Unintended Consequences | socalTECH.com

Calling the consequences unintended is a little misleading. The CA politicians passed these laws knowing full well the revenue will not materialize--but can create the illusion they've balanced the budget. Then, when the revenue shortfall is resulting in debt Brown and company can raise taxes.

They can act like they tried -- and position their strategy (more taxes) for the future.

Re: Top 5 Must See Sessions at Affiliate Summit West 2010

Angel,

As always your Don't-Miss list provides great tips for promising sessions!

Personally, I'm looking forward to a great discussion and the sharing of ideas with the new comers registered for the Affiliate Summit mentor program. I think the product itself, the copy, and the presentation all factor into what is deemed credible/genuine.

I think if you're about to purchase an item like, say, a diamond ring--the crappy page wouldn't fly. I think conversions would go down. That said: I have learned to trust the test results over my belief every time. :)

Re: The Woman Who Paid Me $1 Million In Affiliate Revenue Teaches You About Affiliate Programs. - With Lisa Riolo

The business owners that approach affiliate marketing with long term objectives do (typically) build solid, sustainable profits. I think the reason for the "quick buck" perception is that there are plenty of Internet Marketers hyping their own "Business in a Box" get-rich-quick-through-affiliate-marketing products.

I know of many business owners with 5-10 year old businesses where the revenue being generated comes primarily from performance-based advertising.

Re: Minnesota Affiliates Where Are You?

If you are in MN and want yourvoice heard and your story told, start with a comment here. I was on one of the early calls that we held to help us fight CA AB178. You were on the phone with great information and a level of encouragement we all needed. It was so clear that your agenda was to help!

I mentioned last night I have "high hopes and low expectations." Honestly, I've thought about this a lot throughout the day. One winner. One loser. We'll think we should only pick one. Or, worse, neither.

I believe there are so many amazing, smart and well-intended people with great integrity in this industry. I hope that BOTH of these associations highlight, and represent, the *good* in our profession, and minimize the impact of those that don't wear the Affiliate or Performance Marketing labels well.

Re: Upgrading the Newspaper Revenue Model

Interesting read. This is one of those times you've got to take action and VISIT, or call or write. Face to face is best, but everything helps. Just let your representatives know how this will hurt your business. We are all counting on you!

Re: Affiliate Taxation – Time to Fight Back

How Can You Help?

"Discuss the bill with people. Let them know why it’s a bad idea, inform them. If you have a blog, make a post. If you are on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. use them to spread the word and link to places where this is being talked about. Create discussion and make your voice be heard."

This is excellent advice! If someone else sends a Tweet, please Re-Tweet. If someone starts a discussion in a LinkedIn, please comment on it. Comment on blog posts to help keep those posts getting high visibility. If someone doesn't want to receive recommendations that might be of a commercial nature, they shouldn't pose it in the Twitter-verse. Think about this same situation "offline." I'm at a well attended public event, mostly surrounded by friends and friends of friends. I shout out loud enough for a lot of people to hear: I need to replace my coffee grinder--any suggestions? It has to be a burr grinder and grind for both espresso and French Press. Can I honestly expect that an unknown passerby (that happens to be a sales rep for a Coffee Equipment company) won't hand me a coupon and an opinion? The onus is on the person doing the asking.

Re: Patience

Ha! You guessed right that I do get impatient, consistently, when in certain situations. But it is a type of stupid. Stupidity based on laziness or disrespect. I do okay when someone is not capable. I don't have patience for either deliberate neglect or not trying. That drives me nuts! I struggle to reset by expectations even when I know no amount of persuading will trigger a positive response. But I still try to get my patience on. ;)

Re: Priority You

I think about those simple instructions a lot. I wasn't convinced I could give up real books especially for the small screen. I am more interested now that I am adapting to the iPhone. It sounds like a hefty price if you are an average consumer of reading materials. But if you wear the label "avid resder" then the possibility of an ROI seems greater.

I have high hopes that we'll see brawn with the beauty

Re: Clean Data - Why it’s important to honor coupon policies.

Jamie: This is a topic of growing importance, especially given our current economic conditions.

There are a lot of issues around the pros and cons of "coupons"--for both Merchants and Affiliates. What you illustrate so well is that coupons are not always intended as a basic consumer discount. Which is why the conversation between Merchant and Affiliate is so important. Both partners need to share and understand the other's objectives and objections. If Merchants and Affiliates would cooperate, the "black hats" in the crowd would stand out more than they do today.

Another tip for merchants is that they should spend more time showing affiliates what they are doing to improve the conversions of the visitors that are being sent over by their performance partners. One reason affiliates tend to grab and promote a coupon code is because it might help improve conversion rates. If the merchant has other programs designed to help convert new visitors--the coupon code would seem less important.
