I like the example of the diamond ring sale. I think it may have to do with the risk level. Buying an e-book let say $20 is not the same thing as buying a $1000's ring. Still I saw a very compelling landing page selling "how to be first class copywriter" and the DVD's were a $1000...

In any event, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I appreciate it very much.

Mo.

Re: The Woman Who Paid Me $1 Million In Affiliate Revenue Teaches You About Affiliate Programs. - With Lisa Riolo

It's been WAY too long. I think the product itself, the copy, and the presentation all factor into what is deemed credible/genuine.

I think if you're about to purchase an item like, say, a diamond ring--the crappy page wouldn't fly. I think conversions would go down. That said: I have learned to trust the test results over my belief every time. :)

Re: The Woman Who Paid Me $1 Million In Affiliate Revenue Teaches You About Affiliate Programs. - With Lisa Riolo

The business owners that approach affiliate marketing with long term objectives do (typically) build solid, sustainable profits. I think the reason for the "quick buck" perception is that there are plenty of Internet Marketers hyping their own "Business in a Box" get-rich-quick-through-affiliate-marketing products.

I know of many business owners with 5-10 year old businesses where the revenue being generated comes primarily from performance-based advertising.

Re: Minnesota Affiliates Where Are You?

If you are in MN and want yourvoice heard and your story told, start with a comment here. You guessed right that I do get impatient, consistently, when in certain situations. But it is a type of stupid. Stupidity based on laziness or disrespect. I do okay when someone is not capable. I don't have patience for either deliberate neglect or not trying. That drives me nuts! I struggle to reset by expectations even when I know no amount of persuading will trigger a positive response. But I still try to get my patience on. ;)

Re: Priority You

I think about those simple instructions a lot. I wasn't convinced I could give up real books especially for the small screen. I am more interested now that I am adapting to the iPhone. It sounds like a hefty price if you are an average consumer of reading materials. But if you wear the label "avid resder" then the possibility of an ROI seems greater.

I have high hopes that we'll see brawn with the beauty

Re: Clean Data - Why it’s important to honor coupon policies.

You make some very good points, ones I hope that more merchants get to see and more affiliates understand what they should be pushing towards - stronger relationships with more give an take. Thanks for commenting!

Merchants, many of them, don't look at affiliates as partners. Mainly because of these type of problems. They should though, the affiliates that are doing this well are getting that information. I've also found that it is a function of time. An overworked AM at the merchant can't respond or be proactive with everything.

Re: Clean Data - Why it’s important to honor coupon policies.

Jamie: This is a topic of growing importance, especially given our current economic conditions.

There are a lot of issues around the pros and cons of "coupons"--for both Merchants and Affiliates. What you illustrate so well is that coupons are not always intended as a basic consumer discount. Which is why the conversation between Merchant and Affiliate is so important. Both partners need to share and understand the other's objectives and objections. If Merchants and Affiliates would cooperate, the "black hats" in the crowd would stand out more than they do today.

Another tip for merchants is that they should spend more time showing affiliates what they are doing to improve the conversions of the visitors that are being sent over by their performance partners. One reason affiliates tend to grab and promote a coupon code is because it might help improve conversion rates. If the merchant has other programs designed to help convert new visitors--the coupon code would seem less important.

Re: How To Renew Your Energy.

Thanks, Tony, for stopping by to comment. I hadn't really thought of it until now... but I think I renew by tackling something new and different - From the outside perspective I'm sure I look like I am moving in 10 directions... really I'm constantly re-engaging the creative outlets from various angles so I don't become stale or moldy - maybe i'm really just a loaf of bread. Seriously, I need to keep drawing in new things to think about or I end up going kind of limb and thats when the energy drains.

When I was working on client projects, I'd often create a hypothetical project to work on as well - with different criteria and boundries so I wouldn't find myself in the usual overly redundant rut many of us get stuck in. Now, I just start projects - So i often have a design project, a coding project, and a craft project I'm working on along with whatever else. I have to have tactile and logic working at the same time the creative daydreaming is or something falls off the track. So renewing usually involves new subject matter or medium.

reading below, clutter for me has an absolute purpose and to some degree is necessary in my sanity - the average "clutter" is often times inspiration for me. I need the obscurities and out of place distractions to keep me moving and thinking beyond the typical view... it's an ongoing word association game. I spy a scrap of paper -> need to make a card -> oh valentine's day is coming -> penguins... with hearts -> candy heart-> hey sexy -> oh funny joke -> pink doily-> dollies-> where's Lauryn-> lunch time-> pb& j -> oh, look, theres that peanut butter loves jelly doodle... and then I start all over.. completing one path of thoughts, renew and begin again.

Re: How To Renew Your Energy.

Hi Andrew,

"Decluttering" is definitely a key concept in energy management. Clutter = distractions. Since focusing is our objective, we must avoid distractions.

I think Po Bronson's books have been on my To Read list for way too long without getting to one of them.
