Like many others, I've been trying to get the iPhone app throughout the day, and hope to see it soon. Want me to drive over to Apple HQ and give a little knock on the front door? :)

Re: Why I Wouldn't Accept $25,000 To Stop Using Google Reader for a Year

Martin, glad to hear you like Google Reader. I also know Feedly well,
and enjoy that product. I was the first ever to write about Feedly,
and have covered the service several times since its launch last June.
See:
Feedly Brings New Social Experience to Start Page, Leveraging RSS http://blog.louisgray.com/2008/06/feedly-brings...

Re: Stalqer: A Location Sharing App for Real Friends

That can't be good! I didn't expect it to be as accurate as it is, but it's not only served to chronicle the process you and I go through, but it's helped to be a reminder to me to avoid acting like the stage 4 and stage 5 person I can be. When things get tough, I use it as an internal check to avoid looking like... what do you call it... an arrogant baassttarrrddd? :)

A service like FriendFeed is a combination of technology and community. The technology is beyond measure, in my opinion. The community that is there has grown and become great on that platform. That it has changed over time is without question. Much of that has accelerated following the awkward and quiet Facebook acquisition. But the truth is that if every single person left, and kept their feeds intact, it would still have value for me.

I am working with a few sites that have interesting technology and interesting communities to see if they can fill the perceived void. But I don't think Twitter or Facebook are 100% the answer yet. We'll see!

Re: That's not what I ordered...

Congratulations, Drew. Amusingly, this morning a friend was trying to convince
another friend of mine (who happens to work at Apple) that someone he
knew had purchased the new mini iPhone from Apple while in Japan, and
that it had a keyboard. The Apple employee simply held out his iPhone,
and said "there is only one iPhone."

While he was clearing up the young man's delusion, it had me thinking,
there is only one iPhone. There will be many other Droids - lower case
or upper case.

Re: A loss for words.

Sorry to hear about this, Micah. Sorry to hear you dropped your PowerBook! That's a rough one. My wife did the same when presenting in her high school classroom, and I had to pony up to buy a replacement the next day. Ouch. The Droid is pretty cool, and I hope Apple has an answer to it that's more than the 3G(S).

Re: Could A Real Apple Fan Completely "Go Google"?

Every time I boot up my Office products and my Mac slows to a crawl, I think about what the alternative must be. I have found Google's engineers and representatives easily accessible in many areas. Some have said because I am fairly visible on this blog and elsewhere, I get special treatment, but I don't think that happens often. The Web is changing the world before our eyes, and who knows what next decade's battle will be?

Re: Could A Real Apple Fan Completely "Go Google"?

I don't worry so much about the "global elite of multi-national corporations" when it comes to trusted companies with good products. Google does a smart thing in letting much of its data be open, and exportable. They really believe in this in a way that I don't expect we will ever here from people like Microsoft and Facebook. Worrying about Google knowing everything about your business is like worrying about the Government or the Web. There's just not enough tin foil hats to pass around. :)

Re: Could A Real Apple Fan Completely "Go Google"?

Thanks for visiting Altaire4. The Droid is a good product, period. Google's "publish code often" strategy is fantastic for them, while traditional OS vendors get slammed for point releases. Definitely something in Google's favor.

Re: Could A Real Apple Fan Completely "Go Google"?

I believe Apple's user interface design trumps Google's in almost every respect, and I assume most people would agree with me. Some of their products look as if they were designed by engineers, and in some cases, they no doubt were. But I trust them to improve.
