I think the youngest of those links is nearly 12 months old now, which is why I'm surprised to see it come up again today. I don't think I've so much as written about Techmeme, let alone read it since then, and although naturally Gabe and I will likely never eye to eye, I've well and truly moved on. We can't always change others, and I can only influence what I do myself in my actions. Despite his bitterness, I do wish Gabe all the best.

sorry I'm late to the thread. We've publicly offered proof previously on the Apple story, and the Radio story quoted here is a matter for the public record. See my other comment on the thread for more. I'm not sure how much more honest and open I can be on what I'm accused of. I am far from perfect, and we don't always get it right, but we've never made stuff up, period.

If you actually read ALL the history, you'd know that the then Prime Minister declared Kenya a republic in the December of 1964 (he also declared himself President at the same time.) The original Government of Kenya was sworn in by the British appointed Governor General: to suggest that the Kenya's didn't recognize their Government structure at the time is complete rubbish.

And this is relevant how? The issue is that the reprint is in the Feb of 64... Kenya became a Republic in the DECEMBER of 64.

Health has nothing to do with responsibility though. If you're not responsible enough to buy beer, why is voting different? Indeed, the effect of a vote could be far more detrimental to your health and well being ;-)

I'm not pointing the finger at this girl, nor would I. Her loss was a tragic loss that should never have happened. However a mother who glibly blames the internet and ignored the bullying she received that led to her suicide...well, it wasn't exactly helpful ,was it.

Yes, and you did everything a good parent should do and I congratulate you for it. I also feel terrible that this girl died, but likewise I feel angrythat her death occurred because her parents dismissed schoolyard bullying as nothing important to begin with then blamed the internet...while actually saying that they don't blame the girl who was harassing her daughter online.

I'm sorry, but this sort of tripe in newspapers damages the message that should be getting out about teen suicide. Other parents with kids in trouble read this story in the paper and get the idea that the internet is to blame and ignore the real problem, and then we tragically lose more kids. If this post saves only ONE life by correcting the failure of News Ltd publishing this to begin with, then I am better for it, and so is society.

She was being bullied by her classmates...at school and online, actions that her mother ignored and dismissed out of hand. The internet didn't kill the girl, her classmates drove her to it. End of story.

Yes actually I do have a son. One who I would be there for if he was being bullied at school, and not simply dismiss it as kids have fun. As for being a "social misfit" you defense of this mother says far more about that being a label appropriate for you.

I take it on board...despite the pic doing the rounds for the better half of 6 mths... I can't claim credit on that.

But likewise I'm sick and tired of this blind Mullenweg worship...and you only need to read TechCrunch 2 years ago to see that. WordPress is a wonderful idea, arse fucked by a person and company who only sees profit. That people keeping giving to it, when those who try to profit from it get cracked down on... sorry, I'm always going to take the side of the underdog. And just remember: I was one of the biggest ppl who switched the blogging community to WP from MT to start with. SixApart have only in the last year forgiven me. I don't come here raw or uninvited, but as a veteran WP solder.
